Just to add, I played correctly I think, but most of the pads were Vista'd here,
in the first 15 races! So I almost had no weapon => no turbo, quakes, rockets,
and more importantly maybe, almost nothing to recharge my shields!
(and BR worked fine so ... even worse)

Might just be lag because I took some pads 1st but the ship behind had the
weapon then shot me...

How can I expect to win anything under those conditions? :(

Congrats to Haydn and Hellfire :clap

Well, if Hell is like this match, I want to stay alive a little bit longer!
We were spanked, that´s it. It was hotter than Zoth´s sauna in there, I tell you.
The Bug doing 1.45.?? on Sol2! Cheers!
Hellfire, even hungover, doing good through almost every 16 tracks!
Well, been there - done that. Now figure-skating for the rest of the spring ...
Thanks for the match Bandits :dizzy

Hi everyone.:)
With Fgdk we would like to participate to doubles ladder.
I'm new on wipeoutzone, my name is eric and i live in paris.
Escuse me if it's not the right place to do that, i didn't find a thread for presentation.
We'll choose a name for our team soon, Fgdk is waiting for complete his registration.
See you soon online.

i'll whack it up as TBC :D

HFA Vs. FaD would be awesome :P

IDEA
I just had an idea, feel free to shoot it down in flames but it might help to get the ball rolling (as goes teams that haven't played any matches so far) :
how about arranging a 'doubles weekend' during which we could have lots of matches between different teams. not a tournament as such but just arrange a round-robin type affair?
i know that a few pairs will doubtless be unavailable but nevertheless i think it could be good fun.

any takers?

Good idea yeldar!
We must to determinate a date!

TarotCardKiller
18th May 2009, 04:51 PM
I think the idea of a doubles weekend would indeed start the fire. I see there are 7 Teams that are still neutral in points. I'm sure setting a date would get things spurred.

I had an other idea that might sound interesting (Idk if its been said already). During or around the time of the WOWC, there can be a doubles "ladder" tournament. You can pick beans out of hat or something to determine which teams race; it would be like the Superbowl less the commercials.

SaturnReturn
18th May 2009, 05:21 PM
I think Folie Ã* deux is going to take a bit of a break to pursue solo projects. Once some other teams have played more matches we'll come back stronger than ever. Either that or we'll be completely out of practice and get our arse and ass kicked by everyone. We shall see. But TCK and I have both mentioned taking a bit of a break from doubles after this weekend just gone. It's healthy for our ("not in that way") relationship :D

it will be massive, trust

@saturn: i'm pretty sure i credited you at the very beginning, it was the best/least i could do.

I know you did from your point of view and mine. I think others missed it though so I was a bit gutted. Anyway, Feisar31 has really made it with the whole ladder thing and rules (which I try to uphold where possible, and when I remember them). So most credit goes to him for that side and to you for the upkeep. But just for the record, I'll always be a little jealous :p

Damn insomnia here. Stupid red bull can. GG to Semper Feisar, we enjoyed a lot these races. We saved enough energy from mayday to win an awesome, stressing & tied match. Seriously the points don't exactly reflect what happened. Ok Stinkleroy was extremely focused tonight, but I was always near to burn with my fkin 1% shield (all by myself : BRing like hell, for nothing ah ah, dumb racing lines). We definitely looking forward a rematch soon, well, of course we need a rest after last week-end and the endless practice sessions we had these past days... Gah definitely TOO MUCH WIPE OUT. Again, thanks a lot LOUD&PROUD & FrostE. See? I still can't sleep ah ah.

Quick question: Should we incorporate the new modes and stuff into this league (like a monopoly of sorts) or should we leave it to others (like KIGO and his eliminator league)?

Personally I'm for the second proposition seeing as it's nice to have big leagues run by different people and peple can choose to compete in whichever leagues they want at any time etc... Not to mention the fact that I'd sort of be hogging the limelight (which I'm sort of doing at the moment (even though feisar31 is the real brains behind this league)).

Nothing urgent, just a thought :D

keep up the good work people :+

20.30 GMT

Could you please clarify the time? I always get confused with summer time, seeing as UK is GMT+1 now, and Austria is GMT+2. So as of me posting this, it's 18:00 here in Austria, that would mean the Doubles match is 22:30 my time - correct?

Zoth-Ommog
22nd June 2009, 04:21 PM
21.30 your time. Because given time 20.30 GMT is already +1 by default during the daylight saving period. I don't know if it's the "right" way to deal with it, but imo it prevents confusion this way because you only have to worry about the gap between your country and UK.

I'm not sure that's right Zoth. I think GMT is a datum so always stays the same. So when the UK goes into summer time and clocks roll forward one hour, GMT doesn't go with it. So right now we're not GMT, we're BST (British Summer Time [a.k.a. bull**** time]), which is equivalent to GMT+1, as eLhabib says.

I find the best way is just to say London time, or Paris time, or Vienna time etc. That way someone can type "London time" straight into google and see what the time difference is instantly.

actually, of course there are takers... what i meant was: datesdatesdates? when's good for who? this w/e is a bit short notice and EndGame is the w/e after so i suggest we have it after avalon :D
unless of course you want to coordinate a ridiculous attack on the servers during which people will be popping in and out of avalon/doubles rooms like pixies on speed :dizzy
i'm all for that as well but it might mean having a hideous amount of lag/pad issues. i don't really know to be honest, network bizzle ain't my forte.
hop to it people!

Yes, yes, yes...but no to the same weekend as Avalon as I'm not sure I will have an internet connection then :(

I'm definately up for this though..wish my future wasn't so cloudy, otherwise I would suggest a date :lol

well we definately need you for things to go ahead, wouldn't want to be without aerodynamic now would we?
anyone else got any suggestions? week after avalon? week after that?

23rd June 2009, 11:52 PM
Avalon is a big event so we should try to steer clear of it if we want as many players as possible to be able to join. I'm sure if Kanar wants to be in the doubles weekend he'd rather not have it very close to Avalon. The week after or the week after that would be fine, but if Cat is unsure about when she'll be able to participate we could wait to see if things become a bit clearer.

The best thing we can do is suggest a date and wait to see if everyone is OK with it.

Results for THEREDANDWHITE Vs. Foile á Deux:
eLhabib and Amorbis (THEREDANDWHITE):
Forward: 87
Reverse: 87
Overall: 174

SaturnReturn and TarotCardKiller (Foile á Deux):
Forward: 97
Reverse: 97
Overall: 194

Very close and intense races in both tournaments, in the end Saturn and TCK just managed to prevail with me and eL close behind. Well done Foile á Deux!

Congrats to the winners! Much fun it was!
I have to say this was much closer than I expected, so I'm actually quite satisfied with the results - even though we lost consistency as each tour reached the back 4 tracks...

Great stuff!

Well done to you guys. You pushed us real hard. That's probably the most exciting racing experience I've had in a while. You two really know how to handle the less spritely ships.

I'd encourage everyone else to get some more matches going so we can see how the league table will pan out when everyone has a few more matches under their belts.

Your aquatic partner? rubberduck FTW! Yeah I'm actually retired from the tracks, funny thing, I tried some online races yesterday in the afternoon, despite the fact I'm out of training, & it was awful. Everybody killed me, and then the servers took the decision of kicking me out cos' I was horrible lol. You're right Cat, I'll be away from my ps3 during the next 2 weeks but I'll be back in the early august days, so we could prepare the next aerodynamic season soon anyway.

A new team has entered the Arena !!

Comprised of myself and As_Heaven_is_Wide (Vic_Viper_85 on psn)

We have yet to think of a decent name for our team yet but when we do be sure to let you know.

If anyone wants a challenge over the weekend let us know and see if it can be arranged.

Will have to be on the old tracks though as neither of us are competent on the new ones yet.

Hello everybdy I'm back
Feel free to turn up this weekend, it's an pen invitation sort of thing.

Pick up you relentless, grab some E's, knock 'em back and go :hyper

Now that all this Fury crapola is out of the way (i.e. people are over the initial excitement), it's time to get the ball rolling again!

Edit: Just realised that there's a WWC going on...I don't care, this takes less organising so lets go! :)

Hello, I see some things on this forum who tell me there are some people interested in a team competition.

Remember you this doubles ladder (http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6020).

I have the idea to relaunch this competition with some arrangements, in order to supple the rules.

Teams can contain from 2 to 9 pilots.
Pilots can't join several teams at same time.
Each month, a team can change 1 or 2 player(s).
Each team can play with 2, 3 or 4 players, regardless number of opponents.
No rules for team composition : national, ship addicted (eg Icaras team), or just friends, like you want.

New tournaments :
The HD Campaign Tour : 8 HD tracks forward
The Fury Campaign Tour : 8 Fury tracks
The No Campaign Tour : 8 HD tracks reverse
The Forward Tour : 12 tracks forward
The Reverse Tour : 12 tracks reverse
Enduro Tour : 3 free-choice races of 20 laps

You can play with or without weapons, Rapier tournaments are possible, you can increase the number of laps by race (I think 5 in Rapier & 7 in Phantom are good choices).

Designation of winners when the two teams haven't the same number of players.
Team A with 2 players, Team B with 3 or 4 players : Team A score the sum of his two players. Team B score the sum of his two best players at the end of the tournament. (and not the sum of the 2 best in each race)

Team A with 3 players, Team B with 4 players : Team A score the sum of his three players. Team B score the sum of his three best players at the end of the tournament. (and not the sum of the 3 best in each race)

So, have more players than his opponent can give an advantage, but it's not irremediable.

When the teams have same number of players, all their points count.

The draws are possible.

I have no real idea for the ranking system. We can keep actual Elo system, or create a real championship, (win = 3 points, lose = 1 point, draw = 2 points), during two or three months, with play-off or final for 4 or 2 best season teams (depending of number of teams).
With these more flexible rules, it will be easier to organize meetings & tournaments.

I'd like to see something like this happen kaori. Playing single races gets a little repetitive after a while. I think we need to find a way to make the game a bit more interesting. I think a lot of us want to keep playing, but struggle to find anything new these days, especially when we're more of the copying type than the pioneer type (i.e. me).

The doubles ladder was a reasonable success, but I do think it was only a small number of teams who really kept it going for a while. Organisation is a big issue. It's usually one dedicated person that does the organising. Having only 4 players to worry about made it a little easier than full matches.

Another thing that I think made doubles enjoyable, was that there was less carnage, due to the lower number of players. There were less weapons flying around and less negative effects from lag etc. As well as meaning races resembled something closer to racing, it also meant people felt less hard done by when they lost. You didn't really have to worry about that side of things - you just had to race your arse off. I think EPSILON's ASTRAL went very well for quite some time. Then interest started to fade and I think it may have been partly because there was just too much carnage.

What you're suggesting sounds good to get more regular team games. I like your ideas. Having a large squad and any number of players able to play would be good to make it flexible. There are a few minor issues though. For a 3 v. 2 type game, one team would essentially have 50% more firepower and I think this would have a great effect on the outcome.

I was thinking though, what if we were to do something that did not require a preset team at all? What if we just had a weekly time when e.g. doubles matches happened. We could setup up a chatbox and people could join and just partner up and race another random team. Maybe an ELO system could still be used and players could be ranked as individuals, based on their team working skills, taking into account both the team score and individual score (so that team mates don't just start shooting each other at the end, if they're already way ahead :P). We could say that players shouldn't be with the same partner more than once, e.g. within a certain time frame. This would prevent anyone pair from going together each week and dominating together. Maybe we make that time frame the 'season' and declare a winner at the end. Matches could be short, so even if only four people turned up one week, they could play in one pair and then switch round and do another tournament. I think this could work well for a casual and fun league, perhaps. I guess it could be difficult as well in some ways, e.g. if loads of people wanted to take part then it could get difficult organising it on the spot. But I suppose we wouldn't know that until we tried.

I see the advantages as these:

Minimal players needed to get a match going=sustainable
Easy organization - just turn up at the same time(s) each week(end) and see who's in the chatbox
Less carnage and adverse lag effects
Competitive, but not dominated by any one in particular
Get to know new people by playing on a team with them

Maybe as a further idea, we could do a short season and then match the top players with the bottom players and then create a short knockout tournament of some kind.

Anyway, I'll stop now. I'm playing the game as I type this, so apologies if it's a bit muddled. I just wanted to throw some ideas out there and maybe help to drum up some interest. I think we need it. :)

In other news though, I know reviving the old championship isn't really an option considering the WipEout Cup in December and further on... but if anyone's getting misty eyed for 2v2, I've made a casual thread. :) http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?p=185650
