I am still unsure of difference between Wipeout 2097 and XL, is it simply to do with PAL/NTSC? Or is XL the PC version?

Can you play multiplay with the PC of Wipout 2097? That would be cool, although I don't actually own a copy I would like one, but I can't find it anywhere.

One more thing, I always considered the voices, for the weapons etc, were better in 2097 than any of the other games. Anyone else thign that?

2097 is the PAL version
XL is the NTSC version

I don't think there's any gameplay differences and I don't know why the PC version was marketed as XL. The PC version used the 3Dfx engine so it had smooth textures. I believe you could also have network games. I have a friend who has a PC version of Wipeout. I was quite surprised when I found this. I prefered the voice in 2097 but it wasn't perfect.

actually, the 2097 version is much floatier, and this does affect gameplay somewhat

I believe there are musical differences as well.
