View Full Version : Hidden stat harvesting

No doubt all kinds of interesting statistics are being harvested about wipeoutHD.
Things like:
The number of players that are finishing the game
The number of players using sixaxis controls
The proportion of multiplayer games at each speed class
The number of instances of splitscreen usage
Proportions of vertical vs horizontal splitscreen
The amount that each ship is being used (I think I've only seen one auricom so far)
The number of players using pilot assist
The proportion of assist users that stop using it

Assuming I'm correct in thinking this... the information would be useful for targeting development time in a lot of games, so I would be surprised if it's not being gathered... will the general public ever get to see these stats? I'd find it fascinating, personally.

I'm more interested in knowing how much $ production of the game cost, and how many copies theyve sold so far.

Ditto with the comment above. but i'm sure we will fidn out soon enough as it isn't even a week yet since the game launched.

Yes.

All your stats are belong to us.

On the topic of stats, I'd like to see an average speed stat over the length of a speed lap, time trial and single race so we can compare not only two people scoring XY.Z seconds over a race, but how closely to an optimal speed they came.

Are the rights to my playing habits signed over in the agreements I never read when signing on online?

Yes. You probably missed the bit that transfers all your wages into my offshore account, too.

Anyway, I'm off to the Bahamas in my gold-plated yacht. Bye!

Well that's fair enough, Egg. Sure, that money was keeping my elderly mother alive but, hey, I couldn't begrudge you a yacht. You've certainly earned it. But if you do happen to pass me on the street, by my cardboard box, toss me a coin won't you?

My stats may be bought; my stats may be stolen,
but my reputation's my own, and mine own creation.

At SL they've probably got a stat of time spent looking at stats of time spent looking at stats :P

so funny to read you guys thx :hyper

one small regret here Colin and Jon : since i am opening new horizon to few of my friends about stunning HD i missed the possibilitie to create a ' friend profile' which could be separated from my own personnal achievment.

But the good part is i am possibly the one who shared my controller the most :D ( from last friday it's like 15 different guys and gals who tested it : how can i contribute more to the Wipeout history ?
:beer

Thx again for that amazing game and respect :coffee

i dont think my time looking at stats thing never even worked for pulse. it always said like 2 minutes or some really low number

Lion
3rd October 2008, 11:23 PM
if it was the last thing you did before you turned off the psp then it never saved. unless you did a manual save or raced a single player race that lead to an autosave, the stats didn't update.
my pulse said my multiplayer time was considerably lower than it actually was because I usually quit the game after multiplayer, didn't save the stats

The amount that each ship is being used (I think I've only seen one auricom so far)

aw thats sad. i think that assegai is the most used ship in wipeout hd. i was an assegai user before but after seeing the amount of people that were using assegai online. i switched to icaras and now im using harimau :D

I was wondering where Assegai's current popularity stems from? Is it because it was the default selected ship in Pulse?

Btw I adore the new Auricom, design-wise. And it steers basically like a heavier Assegai, so I might use it in weapons-heavy races.

Well, I've heard it said that lots of people really like a big ass...

So maybe that's it? 8 D

It's one of the best all-rounders in the game, in my opinion, so that might be why. :)

And yes, Auricom looks and controls great. Its stats suggest bad maneuverability but it steers like a dream compared to Piranha. =)

Heh, when I play online it seems like I am one of the only people ever using AG-SyS. Always polluted by the Assegai players.

It never used to be this way, nice to see the devs favourite put in its place eh.

Old thread, I apologize in advance for "necroposting" it.
Obviously, the game keeps track of some stats... number of ships eliminated online, to grant you the AG Assassin at least... how many times you won races online (The Connexion Maximale trophy), etc...

I must say, I would love to be able to see how many ships I have taken down online to know how far I am from a "legit" AG Assassin, and to able to read some other basic stats like that. Not to turn that into a leaderboard (as I said elsewhere, this would change how some people play online), just to be able to read my own stats? I guess it is either already in the save somewhere or on the servers?

Some of the suggestions there are also interesting, like the average speed thing. Maybe it is not practical... Or the usage of ships and their success/results (I saw that on wipeout-game for Pulse, I guess). It is by no means crucial, but it would be appreciable.

If people at Studio Liverpool are viewing my hidden stats - then they KNOW that I haven't gotten laid in a while. ;) They must get a good chuckle out of people with similar stats to mine.

After every race, I see my hard drive store a little nugget of info, sadly I'll never know what the write-head is saying about me to the platters. I'm sure it's derogatory, though.

I am curious as to how many online races I've done, my win/loss ratio and global (overall) ranking - as depressing as the latter may be to find out.

If I get all my ships to 100,000 points - can I see my stats then? :lol

Apparently you don't get anything extra for having all ships at 100k points.:frown:

I think it was Problemsolver that had done this while playing ZONE [does he play anything else?]

Old thread, I apologize in advance for "necroposting" it.Old thread? Necropost? There's only 3 months between your post and the previous! Less, even!
Nah, that kind of thing is totally the right way to do it.
Someone around here even has a record for, like, a 5 year old necropost.
That's a whole lot better than starting a new thread every time you want to continue an old discussion.
This, and many other fascinating things, can be learned from the posting guidelines (http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/announcement.php?f=23)!

This friendly reminder of just how different this forum is has been brought to you by the letter "J".

Question here - we know that Fury will have a stats screen - and it will display a lot of recorded stats (I hope, that is). I'm curious to know whether these stats are only from Fury onward - or will we be able to view some of our previous stats?

Colin? This pushes remuneration level to 3 tacos, should you answer. ;)

Well we can all already look at total race time (mine is around 41 hours atm), other stats I don't really care about.

Darkdrium777

You mean you don't want to know you stayed 6 hours, 47 minutes and 55 seconds in the air, in 108 hours, 34 minutes and 27 seconds of playtime?

[Current numbers in Pulse btw ;)]

I think those stats are a blast - I'd totall love to see that.
