Hi to all Wipeout Pulse fans..8)

The time has come for some paper creation from Wipeout Pulse.
My work continues. Besides the PURE line grafts I want to create PULSE crafts too.:hyper

I know that 20 crafts from FX 300 is still missing ,but dont worry Im counting with their construction.;)

How about some craft from FX 400. :coffee

That idea comes to me trough the ICARAS creation of Dogg Thang (http://wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4333&page=86).
I like his livery so Ive decided to make Pulse Icaras first.

ICARAS

The craft itself is more detailed than the Pure-one, so it will be more difficult to build...Major difference is "clear" COCKPIT with the pilot...
The AIRBRAKES are opening in the different side in some hole-shape thing.
I though that the shape of the Icarases from both games will be nearly the same. Wrong contemplation .The Pulse Icaras has completely new shape as you can notice from the renders below.

cockpit open (http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj274/tv1rj070/wipeout%20pulse%20skins/icaras/i05.jpg)

I hope that the paper model of this amazing craft will be soon...:lol

After that Ill complete THIS little thing (http://www.starcraft-2.cz/index.php?menu=galerie&kat=kanon).:bomb

This time...... enjoy the renders .....;)

Looking great! The addition of the pilot must have made it quite tricky. I can't wait to see it progress!

I made the cockpit from some transparent foil....8)
The unfolded "glass" of the cockpit will be in the paper sheet with the craft in 2 forms: Blank - for transparent foil and Textured - like in the Pure models.:+

this will be an epic, epic thread...

I'm looking forward to your models.
The ones you made for Pure were excellent!

Definitely! Looking forward to see your model, Jan! :)
Maybe you should choose a bigger scale for the pulse models so it's easier to fold these complex structures?

Jan, you do such wonderfully neat, precise work. You got skillz. :)

are you litteraly importing them from the game/website or are you recreating them from scratch? Either way awesome work.

Just imported. Pretty easily too, if you think about it... :|

Fascia

From the game or website? Because I know that it'd make jans papercrafting job alot easier if he had the original models.

defor
24th February 2008, 03:22 AM
Well... yes, you've got me, extracted from the website... so far I've converted the following:

ag_systems.DXF
assegai.DXF
auricom.DXF
harimau.DXF
icaras.DXF
mirage.DXF
qirex.DXF

(updated 2/24)
The rest and the texture mapping are almost done.

Sausehuhn
24th February 2008, 02:37 PM
That's awesome, defor!
Jan you should use them ;)

defor
24th February 2008, 06:01 PM
Ok, all 12 are done now for anyone who wants them (left in .obj format):

http://www.eastrain.com/?p=27

Texture coordinates are intact as well for making new textures, unwrapping, etc.

This should make creating papercrafts simply a matter of unfolding them in the application of choice.

Thanks to Wipeout-Game.com for making the .w3d files publicly available.

Ah nice one defor, I attempted to do the same, got as far as converting the w3d files into .obj using glintercept and SW3D viewer, I'm guessing you used a similar method. I got bored by the time I needed to begin the UV mapping, such a horrible, horrible, task, especialy considering I was working from anim8or ;)

Was planning to import them as props into garrysmod :D

defor

right..
my process (after some trial and error) was as follows:
1-bring the w3d files and images into director and set the movie to default to OpenGL rendering
2-use 3DPI to:
enable visibility (some of the models weren't visible?)
associate the images to the textures
associate the textures to the shaders (had to do this by hand on a few as the original w3d process apparently was not the same for all)
reposition the camera at 0,0,3000 (this is why the obj files are offset vertically
3-create a looping stage and export using OGLE straight from director with settings modified to include texture coordinates and normals

now, some little notes:
1-smoothing groups appear to be lost
2-polys need to be rewelded in your tool of choice
3-normals need unified

but that's standard for most 3d conversions.

Good job Defor:+

Is there any chance to export them (the models) into other formats suitable for me. I need the geometry (mesh) only. The textures and mapping Im doing myself. I need format that can be opened (or imported) with 3D Studio MAX 5.1 or AutoCad 2000.....That means this types of files... dxf,3ds,max(5),dwg(2000)..
I saw in your pages that picture with the craft mesh similar to the MAX interface , true?
It makes my work much easier if you help me with this problem....Jan

I need format that can be opened (or imported) with...

I can export to Metasequoia format(.mqo).
Metasequoia (http://www.metaseq.net/english/index.html) can export to dxf, 3ds(shereware version only), and some format.

Do you (papercraft maker and skin creaters) want it?

EDIT:
Defor, I think you should include alternative ship skin textures for skin creaters if they are availavle.

I'm currently using Max 2008 (just grabbed the trial to see how different it is from 7 - last version I used heavily), but I'll convert them all and post on my site in a few minutes. I just figured that the original export files would be the best choice.

Personally, I haven't jumped on the metasequoia bandwagon, although most Japanese software packages use the format I find. Feel free to do whatever you want with the files, I'm currently looking into using them with ARToolkit for realtime skin visualization and motion simulation.

Alternative textures...
I have already ripped these, the high-palette normal textures, and the eliminator skins out of the game, but I believe that providing them would be a violation of the copyrights on the game UMD as well as discussion of the process being a violation of site rules as the process involves custom firmware, and I'd prefer to keep this discussion legitimate and covered by the site rules.

IF you are interested to learn the alternative skin extraction method, I will outline the process on my website by day's end. I will NOT, however, provide the files, unless given express permission by the moderators (many of whom work for SL).

AS an addendum, I fully support and love SL/Psygnosis's work on the Wipeout fanchise, I just want to stay on the good side of the community, as a few of my previous UMD wadfile/website dissasembly attempts were seen as negative to the community.

/me points out the flipped normal on auricom's left airbrake, and where'd icaras go? :P

got delayed in what you had asked about last night, my cable modem was out, but it's coming, along with a little handy dandy tool i'm writing up.

I have my own Icaras 8)created from the "blueprins" and reference pics...this group is the rest bunch of work I must bring to life :hyper

BTW...Im unfolding the MIRAGE model for testing.....Must manual create the cockpit glass and optimalize the pilot inside, but it si really quick....

...........request deleted.......for safety of course.:robot..

I'll tackle the Pure issues (textures and models) after I finish writing a few new tools for Pulse, but for reference, I'm pretty sure UMD disassembly is one of those topics that's not to be discussed on WZ as it involves CF to some extent. I'll put a forum up for these discussions outside of WZ in a little bit.

At least this shows that there are people out there that use custom firmwares not only to play the latest ISOs available.
It's nice to see that they use it for something good :)

....Hm ...Im working on 2 ships right now....:dizzy

Icaras

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj274/tv1rj070/wipeout%20pulse%20skins/icaras.jpg

...will be on 2 pages..model is unfolded ...the harder part
stand befor me...texturing the hull.

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj274/tv1rj070/wipeout%20pulse%20skins/icaras-1.jpg

Mirage

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj274/tv1rj070/wipeout%20pulse%20skins/mirage.jpg

Unfolding this craft from original 3d model was pretty easy...
but like in the case before must texturize all the unfolded surfaces.:evil

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj274/tv1rj070/wipeout%20pulse%20skins/mirage-1.jpg

....with my "better-resolution" texture...for sure;)

defor
28th February 2008, 04:23 PM
just a note- remember that the airbrakes flip up from the back in pulse.. thus, you're going to want a reverse texture on them as well as changing/creating a hinge point, as the models currently employ floating polys for them.

what software do you unfold with anyway?

/me is still aching for pure and pulse ag-sys :P

after the long break (the papercraft of the cannon is finished and my pages are updated) I will continue in this (like someone wrote) epic thread:)
....First of Ill probably make the ag-systems craft from PURE...

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj274/tv1rj070/wipeout%20pulse%20skins/ags.jpg

after that Ill continue with the PULSE ICARAS....the Dogg Thang texture is still awesome and will be as a optonal texture....MIRAGE craft is stopped (for a while).

I have a question: can someone (sausehuhn for ecxample:twisted) make some screenshots of the MIRAGE on the track...with the all flashing lights on?..I have not the additional game pack and the ship skin editor does not show the flashing lights

and...sorry for a long no responding....As I wrote in PURE thread...I am a human only :dizzy

Hey, are you ever going to finish these? I'm looking forward to the Pure Tigron and Pulse EG-X. As far as the Pulse ships go, you should make blank templates in case people want to create their own skins.

Well, I guess the guy won't come back... His last activity on wipeoutzone was more than a year ago...
Anyways, I'd like the Harimau or the Piranha from Pure...
