Hang on eight, EIGHT new in game racing teams?

Oh yes you can take your own pictures thats my memory stick getting full :banzai
Some sweet screens there, the track on the last one looks good for chaos not much room to avoid bombs there, unless you can fly along that wall

27th March 2007, 10:46 AM
Wicked News!!!!!

What about the PS3 though? I picked mine up last week and I am very impressed so far, F1 looks very impressive, can't wait for more details on the PS3 version of Pulse.

Let the good times roll!

27th March 2007, 10:56 AM
Man O man!!!

Those sreens are looking of the hook!:bat :banzai

September huh, that is just too long.

27th March 2007, 11:02 AM
This is interesting, indeed! The military Triakis we were told about looks nice. Assegai, Feisar and AG-Sys looks as usual, and maybe also Auricom. What's the green one? The shape is very close to Goteki45, but the left and right of the front does not come together. I like the shape of it. There is a red and yellow ship that looks like the Feisar to me. Does anyone know which team it is?

I assume that the screenshots are taken from the PC developer platform, correct? The graphics are stunning, very smooth... but I assume it will be a little less smooth on the PSP. But from the pictures I imagine an overall improvement of the graphics. Sweet! :D

27th March 2007, 11:09 AM
In pic 4, the nearest ship looks surprisingly like a WO3 Auricom in camo. :)
I note that the fusion Auricom look has returned in pic 5.
The 'exhaust' trails look great, and I very much like the design of the red&yellow [Piranhacolours] ship and the one in pic 6 that is yellow, green, and blue.

27th March 2007, 11:56 AM
Borell - that's the Mirage team ship, known as the Mantis. :)

27th March 2007, 12:36 PM
Wow! And screenshots to boot!

Love the new ships, the one thing though, the weapon pickup pads look - a bit ugly to me. Don't kill me Colin!

27th March 2007, 12:42 PM
Can't wait for online :D

This is extremely cool news! I didn't think it would be out as early as September. Wow! Guess they've been working on this for a while. I like all the new ideas explained. Very versitile gameplay, and I like how the tracks are reversible. Very cool.

27th March 2007, 03:00 PM
Cool looking forward to it. hope the tracks will be more dangerous...

Hopefully they might bring back the pits ... enjoyed flying in to them.

27th March 2007, 03:15 PM
Boycott. It'll have loops

Ok, it MAY have have loops but still there's a strong smell of certain nuclear reaction.

27th March 2007, 03:29 PM
I wouldnt panic about that, Its only in places you are goign to be glued to the track, so the rest of time youve still got the floatiness we've come to expect.

I almost sold my psp today, turns out thats not gonan happen :)

27th March 2007, 04:49 PM
Great stuff all this, beginning with a Wipeoutzone exclusive. :+

I have only one real wish for this game - that Pulse is only playable at one cpu speed. This could be achieved by increasing PSP security or, preferrably, by making the game run at the highest speed possible in the first place. In my opinion, if overclocking is possible people will do it. As a result online games will lag, which we`ve seen on kai when cpu speeds don`t match up, and leaderboard times may not be trustworthy.

I`m sure the mag-strips will cause some debate, but then I`m just as sure that SL will make a great job of this game and will not ruin the formula. Real online play is just a dream come true. :dizzy Fantastic days ahead :D

27th March 2007, 06:00 PM
"...coating yourself in the liveries of eight new in-game racing teams, including one called EG-X. Good name."

EG-X? Sounds like a rebrand of EG-r! Would be great to see them back :D

27th March 2007, 09:20 PM
EG.r and Xios fused I would "guess" ;)

So, these screens look really great! only thing I don't like yet are some ship models as they look too similar to Pure's.
But I know the game will turn out just great. I just know it :)

28th March 2007, 12:23 AM
Wow, this almost looks better than Pure, and that's still among the best looking PSP games.

Photomode sounds sweet. I really enjoyed photomode in Gran Turismo 4, and I was actually thinking about how sweet it would be if I could have it in Wipeout. Such a mode is better suited to the PS3 with more rendering power, but it's presense in the PSP game all but assures that it will be in the upcoming PS3 Wipeout. I only hope that you can take photos of in-race moments.

28th March 2007, 12:30 AM
I hope it's going to be a worldwide release, otherwise I'm going to have to import again - damn paypal fisher sites !! :pirate

28th March 2007, 12:43 AM
frak, I need a PSP!

28th March 2007, 12:49 AM
it'd be great if they had a save replay mode :)

then we can re-watch some sweet moments :nod

28th March 2007, 07:01 AM
Wow looks awesome, very excited, can't wait for this one . . . love u Studio Liverpool :D

28th March 2007, 08:55 AM
Thank you Sony and thank you Studio Liverpool for recognising us adrenaline fans out there...:) 2097/XL was the reason I bought a PSX, Fusion was the reason I bought a PS2 (although it was lacking in experience), Pure was the reason I got a PSP. Now please give us some PS3 screenies so I've got an excuse to get one...;) I'm gonna fuse Pulse to my PSP when this baby comes out...

Long live anti-gravity racing...

Now bring back TDR...puhleeeeeeeeeease...:)

28th March 2007, 09:51 AM
Mind you, if you fuse it, it probably won't work!

28th March 2007, 11:39 AM
EG-X = EG-R + Quantax ? Oldschool Qirex in maroon and beige. Yes, please :D

I've got the impression from all those news here and there that the press release included a full list of racing and music tracks but none of the outlets have released it to public in it's original form yet and are just randomly quoting it.

Exceeder sure does sound nice :+.

But mag-strips... come on! Where's AGPC when we need them.

28th March 2007, 12:01 PM
Is 'Exceeder' you refer to that Mason song of the same name?

I love that song!

EG-X = EG.R + Xios

Colin Berry
28th March 2007, 12:29 PM
Quantax ?
No such team exists beyond the 'zone forums.

As Rob has said EG-X is EG-R and Xios, and in time details will be revealed why these teamed up.... (looks at Rob :) )

As for Mag-strips... trust us a little :D

Ally Graham
28th March 2007, 12:33 PM
Very cool news.
Will the PS3 WipEout be Pulse too?

28th March 2007, 12:41 PM
Col - Quantax was already part of the backstory before I came along - I just embelished it a little.

To quote myself from another thread;
"Quantax are the aerodynamics & engineering specialists formed by Holst McQueen in the time between his departure from AG Systems and his involvement with Qirex."

28th March 2007, 12:55 PM
Please help the wikipedia page!

28th March 2007, 01:03 PM
EG-Xios. What? That'll look something like a scorched beet. (can't avoid organic metaphors with Xios)

Actually that makes sense considering how every finnish company has nowadays outsourced their functions to chinese companies. Some ecological takeover backstory with chinese millionaire buying all our summer cottages perhaps :dizzy

But mag-strips... come on! :D

28th March 2007, 02:04 PM
I am very hyped about this i cant wait.

Yeah but they have never officially been a team in the game, thats what I meant - aside from one of the puma ships being called the quantax on here, right ?

I know they are in the back story you wrote.....
you tell me most weeks :p :p

28th March 2007, 04:00 PM
WOW! Just read the news on kotaku, this is GREAT indeed! With all the community feedback the devs have from Pure, this is bound to turn out EXCELLENT!
Btw, Colin, if you read this, I take it what we see on the screenshots are placeholder textures? I already like the design of some of the ships' bodies - new FEISAR looks ace, and that (new?) team in red and yellow (2nd eurogamer screen) already gets me hyped up - very old schooley. Just promise me Assegai is back in the game and I'm happy!
Oh and Max will be stoked about EG-X I guess!

28th March 2007, 06:17 PM
Ahahaha, you're so damn right, eL. Got so excited when I heard about EG-X. Maybe it will be time to change my EG.r avatar then.
And Assegai's in again. You can already see it on the screens. But it's a shame (maybe that sounds to hard/rude, "shame" isn't really the right word), that some ships do have a very, very similar body compared to Pure's. On the high res screens you can see that you beloved Assegai hasn't changed it's body at all. At least it looks like it hasn't.

I'm just wondering on how far the game's progress is now. What's gonna be changed till the final version is available. For example the new weapon pad design looks nice (even though I would have liked a deeper colors more) and then the speed pad looks like Pure's one which does not fit with the new weapon pad then.

But I'm sure SL knows what they're doing. http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

hope you understand my posts, Rob. If not I'll try to phone you so we can speak together and you will understand ;)

28th March 2007, 08:18 PM
on which set of screenshots are you seeing the new Assegai? Something you were shown at the convention?

28th March 2007, 08:46 PM
wow! I logged back in, having had little time to myself of late ( learning to drive and work being crappy! ) to find a NEW WO title!?

Well I pop in here after yet another absence (8 week old daughter - she's a cutie!) and here we have a brand new Wipeout! This is great news! The shots look nice. Very much looks like the successor to Pure and that is no bad thing at all. Some familiar looking ship shapes and, as we all know by now, WO has a habit of developing quite considerably from the early shots so I'm really curious how this one will look in the end.

Should I be worried about the little Fusionisms (reverse tracks, magnetic bits and one Fusion-like design)? Any word on whether the focus will be on racing or battling? I know the camp is fairly split when it comes to that but I'm a fan of the racing elements.

You know, Pure was so good that I think I'll be more than happy with more of the same or an evolution of that. Colin, are you allowed say if it's roughly the same team as Pure? I guess with you involved it can't go far wrong anyway as you were right on the money with Pure.

Very exciting stuff and I'm really glad it's another PSP game. Though I'm sure many are hoping for a PS3 iteration (and I'm sure it will come), Wipeout worked remarkably well on the PSP and offered so much that I'm really happy we'll get to see that again.

Looking forward to all the news on Pulse (and well done to Yawnstretch!).

Colin Berry
29th March 2007, 01:14 PM
The emphasis will be on the racing more than weapons, as it was with Pure (probably even a little more so than Pure)

The aim of the game from a design perspective has been

- Fix the things the team were unhappy with from Pure (example: acceleration across all ships has been improved)
- Look at the things the fans were unhappy with and address some of those issues (obviosuly not all as some are complete opposites so you cant do both)
- Refine features already there
- Introduce new features that continue on from Pure and help provide a better game

Its very easy to get Wipeout wrong, to change things for the sake of it and to try and reinvent things, this is something we are very conscious of.

Pulse is a full game in its own right and not simply a quick sequel (its 2yrs on release wise) but its also not a complete u-turn from the direction of Pure.

I wish I didnt have to be so vague and could go into more detail, but I'm urging on the side of caution until I know I know what we can say :D

29th March 2007, 01:30 PM
Well that all sounds great. I'm really looking forward to it already!

29th March 2007, 02:43 PM
Fantastic and re-assuring answer, Colin, thanks. Music to my ears, though I already trusted you and your team completely anyway. :)

29th March 2007, 04:20 PM
Good stuff Colin, after the promises from you with Pure I'm sure you've earned all our trust on this :)

29th March 2007, 07:50 PM
already registered (by Sony I guess) (www.wipeoutpulse.com) :)

29th March 2007, 07:54 PM
Ooooh, yes! This is brilliant new development! :hyper

EG.r and Xios coming back is music to my ears, but the two teams joining forces is a bit of a suprise. Can't wait to see their ship, and a bit more of the new Feisar! :g

Also great to hear that loops and so forth are coming back. I know that some of you are apprehensive about it, but I'm fully confident that SL will do it in a way that'll please everyone! =)

Loving the new screens. Forget my worries, I trust you guys.

Also, being able to see into the cockpits of these new ships is something awesome.

I really can't wait.

I just hope it'll be an international release, I really want to go up against some talent, and there isn't anybody else even into the game around here!

Hell yeah - new game

Hell yeah - new teams

Hell yeah - awesome title

Hell yeah - loops

HELL YEAH - customizable soundtrack - ever raced on Ozzy Osbourne? :D :banzai

Now let's see... the green thing looks amazing.. as do the tracks. Could that desert environment with the ultra-hi-tech track be a terraformed MARS? (I hope so)

We can spot:

The always beloved Assegai
Green Beauty
Feisar looking thingie with Piranha colors
A red and white one
A strange light-colored, spikey one right before the explosion in the "Mars" pic (enlarge to see)

Me likes :D

EDIT: for some reason the title, Pulse, has got me humming Spinal Tap's "The Majesty of Rock" since I read the announcement. You know, "there's a pulse in the newborn sun, a beat in the heat of noon"...

9th April 2007, 10:23 PM
any thoughts/comments on the reasoning or meaning behind the title, "Pulse"?

not that i dont like it, i just was curious.

This is a good thing :nod

10th April 2007, 12:59 PM
We sent a list of names to the Marketing department and that was the one they liked most.

Back in the summer of 2006 I had an idea of creating a USB attachment that monitored your heart rate while you played the game, as I thought it would be a good way of telling whether multiplayer opponants were stressed or not. That and giving challenges such as "get a lap time of under two minutes at Rapier class with a heart rate no more than 30% above your resting pulse".

I figured that most people ended up racing against themselves, anyway, because the AI has traditionally been nothing more than mobile chicanes, so I thought that racing against your own heart rate could add something to the game without messing with the core gameplay.

It could have been used to enhance other aspects, too, like dynamic music or audio effects, depending on the pulse of the player.

Looking back it doesn't seem like such a great idea, which is probably why it was met with an almost universal MEH! by Sony. I even sent the idea to Phil Harrison, but for some reason he never replied. :|

(Damn, you Phil... you never answer my calls any more! ;) )

Anyhoo, when the name of Pulse was decided on some months later I thought it was kind of ironic, but I like it all the same. :D

Dogg Thang
10th April 2007, 02:34 PM
I love that idea! WO1's Rapier Silverstream while trying to keep an even heart rate? That would be a step further in the search for Nirvana. That could be a spiritual experience right there.

12th April 2007, 07:53 AM
I have to say, I absolutely love your idea, Rob! Think about it, what game would be more suitable to such a device than wipEout? Plus, it totally fits into the whole adrenaline/speedrush/jedi-reflex vibe that goes with the game (and should definitely be used more for marketing).
Shame the guys at Sony didn't like it - I, for one, would love to see it realized! :clap

12th April 2007, 08:46 AM
I must admit my heart rate goes up when I have low shield energy (which admittedly is a lot).
Nice idea Rob, but not practical to implement would it? ;)
Does it take TWO minutes to do a lap in Rapier class? What game would that have been?

14th April 2007, 08:53 PM
Jesus. Talk about nit picking - that was just an off the cuff example.

20th April 2007, 06:42 AM

And it's probably set in 2207 by the looks of it?

20th April 2007, 08:14 AM
Yep, 2207 is our year this time. I figured that sevens had been popular in the past(!), and ten years after Pure seemed about right. Plus it also tied in nicely with 2007. See - a lot of thought goes into this kind of thing! ;) :D

20th April 2007, 08:31 AM
So I guess it's not a coincidence that 2+2+0+7=11, 1+1=2, in the year of this second Wipeout game for the psp? lol

Congrats Borell with Venom status, soon we will be Phantom, the speed we all like the most!!! Isn't it?!!

Saw the teaser: Mmmm, that's why it is a teaser. I WANT MORE!!!!!!! Superb, looks great. I want to test it now!

20th April 2007, 03:11 PM
As I can see on the trailer, the new magnetic system on the tracks is called "Mag Lock" and not "Mag Strip". Actually, I think I prefer this name. On the video, the vertical descent is quite impressive, you will be upside down at its end with the other portion of the track above you... or below, it depends. I think we will really have fun folks!!

20th April 2007, 05:31 PM
Really nice!! The city looks awesome!
But orange speed pads?? No!! give us back something blueish!

Dogg Thang
20th April 2007, 05:53 PM
I quite like the orange speed pads. Surely orange is the colour of fast? Teaser trailer looks nice. The graphics are lovely and I especially love the sparks bit - a really nice touch. It's very sci-fi and reminds me more than any other WO of F-Zero but then I guess the series is shooting ahead in years so that probably fits. Hope those more natural tracks we've seen in the shots balances that out a bit but in a way that compliments, not clashes with, the futuristic city stuff.

I'm really impressed with the lighting effects. I realise that's likely a bit of a difficulty for the design team given that dark sections are very hard to see on the PSP screen so it's great to see that there are very dynamic lighting effects while still keeping things bright.

I'm liking it!

20th April 2007, 06:44 PM

It's the year 2207 and it really looks like EG-X is the bastard offspring of EG-R and Xios. Bring it on! :banzai

Ahem. I really love the looks of the tracks. It all looks... brave, and splendid. It really looks like the future! At least, it looks like a technocrat's kind of future, and I'm a technocrat :D

Tracks looks very diverse, with a MOST nice sense of vertigo to a coupla them. Mag-sections are gonna be awesome, considering how being glued to the track will be 1) limited to such sections and 2) justified with the magnetic aspect of the thing.

I think I'm gonna self-combust. Life's just wonderful :hyper

meh. sorry to break the mood here, but I'm not sure if I like the style (of the trailer, that is). Especially the 'mag lock' bit, and also the logo and font styles, plus the techy color scheme, just doesn't suit me - I just love purE's bland, clean color scheme, from a graphics design standpoint. could very well be that this trailer leads my expectations of what the final game will look like in a wrong direction, though. let's just hope they kept the purE style (2097 style, respectively).

Also meh. I swear I'm not going to get excited about pulse like I did with Pure. I don't regret selling my PSP, wo - negcon << wo + negcon. Now, if it was on the PS3, then that might convince me to get one

Yes, looks like EG-X and either Feisar or AG-Sys:sonar

Yes, that is a coincidence - I'm a web developer, not a mathematician! :)

Wipeout Pulse looks too much like a cartoon to me... I liked Wipeout 3 the best not only because it had the most enjoyable physics of all, including pure, but it looked somewhat realistic... not so cartoonish. Just my opinion obviously...

Hi All.

I see the teaser and I feel the emotion rise up and the thrill along my back, when the ships pass fast and the volume of music increases… :D

I would want already to be there! I want to sit in a cockpit of one of those ships, ready to fight with all my dear mates! ;) and.....

after the run, like the older and wiser aircraft pilots in the old airclub, we met togheter in front of some beers and speak about all we want, like old and brave friends!

Let's be friends!

A 16-event grid full of 16-track tournaments anyone? Now even that is too much for us fight club guys lol...........right?

You know what would be cool? If they have a mag strip route and a normal route on the same area of track so we have one ships going along the normal area and another along the wall this could also reduce the ability of the lead ship to place bombs/mines where they will inevitably be hit by the second place craft meaning closer racing

7th May 2007, 09:40 PM

Hmm... hexagons?

12th June 2007, 09:03 PM
I like

- the Goteki ship
- the Qirex ship
- the blur-effect after a speed-pad
- the option to switch between 2 HUDs
- the option to turn off the HUD (?)
- AG-5Y5's backlights
- the mag-lock route going 90°

I don't like

- the weapon symbol that is placed to centered and to far away from the top and thus gives you a worse view over the track
- the shield
- the return of Pure's missile (I like the classic one more that does not fly zigzag)
- the exactly the same ship-models for some ships
- the water (look at Ridge Racer, guys, that is what it should look like)

I'm not quite sure yet about

- the very minimalistic HUD
- the weapon symbols
- Piranha's livery

Just clicked the "next" button and so I missed that 1st:

What do you think?

12th June 2007, 09:53 PM
I happen to know that Egg has worked long and hard on the ship models for Pulse, Max, so don't be too quick to write them off as identical to those in Pure. Considering there are only ten years between the two leagues, Egg didn't want to evolve them too radically from the Pure models, and I think that was a good aproach. :)

All what is mentionned is purely awesome : can't wait for the 10th september

One regret tho : i don't like the way the speedometer/ shield bar looks like : way too long & large occulting partially vision.

I also noticed a real weird stuff ( maybe it's google translation ) :

which in this occasion it will allow connection LAN to play by Internet through router (or also well-known like Ad-Sickle, which was present in the Japanese version of Wipeout Pure but not thus in the western ones

The new Qirex looks sexy.

this whole game looks absolutely awesome. I can`t believe how much stuff they`ve packed into it. Babelfish (:dizzy:blarg) said that you can take the photos during the "repetitions" of the races. Does this mean that replays are in, or am I just being greedy?

Sorry, there are no race replays in Pulse.

well we can hardly complain with all the goodness you`ve packed in, and thanks for stopping a rumour stopped before it started - I`m blaming Babel Fish. :)

16th June 2007, 01:37 AM
Awesome cover - though I assume the US players will end up with something else...

Hopefully it's not two crafts flying toward the screen down some track like most Wipeouts already made. If it was up to me, a bit more creativity should be added in, like a pulse monitor going crazy or something.

16th June 2007, 08:49 AM

5th July 2007, 05:06 AM
Will American Pulse have just as much content as Euro Pulse?

The additional content was to compensate European players for having to wait longer (PSP, and so Pure, were released later in Europe). Pulse will have the same content for everyone.

New Screens (http://media.psp.ign.com/media/882/882255/imgs_1.html) are now up on IGN, as well as a hands-on from E3 which really doesn't explain much else that we don't already know.

The new screens, on the other hand, look absolutely ORGASMIC. OK, maybe that's too strong of an adjective. Any other suggestions?

EDIT: Screenshot four shows an inverted livery for Qirex - mostly white with purple trim and lettering, as opposed to all purple with white trim and lettering. This is new...

12th July 2007, 02:22 PM
Did noone else notice that in the IGN article they stated there will be TWO SHIP MODELS for every team, and each with multiple liveries?! I hope that's true and not just a misinterpretation by IGN. Or maybe they refer to each team's zone mode ship as the second model?

12th July 2007, 02:40 PM
This new weapon effect for the rockets looks awesome! :)

RJ O'Connell
12th July 2007, 02:48 PM
that thing about multiple ship models and liveries which is too long to use as a quote
I'm thinking that's the case, since I've seen a Zone ship with a FEISAR decal on the back end. Of course it still doesn't explain why there's a White Qirex for normal racing...White Russian livery? :D

And yes, those new rocket effects look much more firey, violent, and awesome.

Dr. Angryman
13th July 2007, 04:27 PM
Look at this!;) (It's from E3, not a torrent:naughty)

Really awesome. Contains a video of a track called Anasazi. Awesome (and open) outdoors track. :hyper Looks like it's on Mars, considering that the grandstand is inside an inclosed section. Also has a video of Zone mode in action on Arc Prime reverse. And finally a circuit I don't know of (but look at my darling AG5Y5 go;))

That's all!

Dr. Angryman

RJ O'Connell
13th July 2007, 04:43 PM
This is the best gameplay vid around. (Because it's official, duh. The whole preview code scare has gotten everyone slightly paranoid if you ask me.)

Anasazi was seen in one of the first screenshots for Pulse, and it looks even cooler in motion (you're right, it does look like a Mars venue). The industrial park-type track near the end where AG-S was flying looks beautiful and quite challenging.

Never heard any of the music before but a lot of it sounds killer. \m/

GameSpot earned back about 50 karma points for putting this up. Nice find Angryman, and welcome to WipeoutZone!

By the way, I think your submit button grew a brain and did a double-post for you ;)

Dogg Thang
13th July 2007, 05:13 PM
I can't open that page for whatever reason. Anyone have another link?

Edit: It's okay. The vid was on IGN. The outdoor bits of that look excellent. I love the rocks and the layout.

Every shot I have seen so far of Pulse has looked like the Delta packs and everything bar the rocks in this do too. They all seem to be using the same fans, tunnels, lights etc. I was actually playing the Delta pack today and could really see how it seems to be the father of Pulse. Those yellow arches in some of the Pulse shots look like a reshape of the yellow arches in Iridia for example. The Pulse tracks look very well made, but I'm already building up a huge sense of familiarity with the sci-fi industrial assets used around the tracks. I'm really hoping the tracks will feel more different in actual play.

Actually, anyone else spot arches in this vid that look just like the arches in Ubermall?

There didn't seem to be any mag-lock sections in this track. A good sign that they may be used sparingly.

Edit2: Having two of my burning questions answered in this video (announcer and sound effects) also leaves me just a little disappointed. The announcer being the same as Pure seems like a bit of a missed opportunity. While I had no problem with the announcer in Pure, this is a new game so I was hoping for something cool. And the sound effects too seem to have come straight from Pure. Again, nothing wrong with them but new game, new locations, new weapons and new craft. I'd have hoped the world of Pulse would sound a little different. Is it possible sound is still being worked on I wonder?

Dr. Angryman
13th July 2007, 05:43 PM
Awesome, eh? Sorry for the double-post. In the words of AG5Y5, "Let's be friends!" :D

I love the Anasazi circuit so far. It has a mix of industry and nature. :banzai
The city park circuit is a mystery but it does look nice. :hyper Zone mode is awesome as always.

If you look at the end of the video you can see some custom liveries! :D
I'm going to have so much fun with that! :beer

13th July 2007, 07:23 PM
"Is it possible sound is still being worked on I wonder?"

"If you look at the end of the video you can see some custom liveries!"

Indeed. Done by our producer Paul, to prove that anyone can do it. Snigger.

"Anasazi ... Looks like it's on Mars"

It's also worth noting that this code is also old (though not as old as the leaked promo). The weapons have come on in leaps and bounds recently - notice the old bomb and quake are still in there - and the "flattened" ships in the Menu Screens have since been corrected.

But as a whole, it gives you a good idea of the detail and speed of the game.

Dogg Thang
13th July 2007, 07:24 PM
Well the detail and speed look superb. No doubt about that.

Thanks for the little tidbits of info, Egg!

Dr. Angryman
13th July 2007, 07:28 PM

RJ O'Connell

Dr. Angryman
13th July 2007, 08:44 PM
What if it's a circuit at the Grand Canyon? That would be neat. :hyper

Concerning the park circuit, it looks a little like Pmar Project, my favorite circuit on W3O. Double-neat! :hyper

Exactly! The track reminds me on Pmar as well. So Wip3out :)

I don't think those were rockets. I think those are the new "shuriken" for Eliminator. I might be wrong. What do you think? (question smiley)
Nope! They certainly were like rockets, same firing pattern, same effect.

Granted, if anyone has played Quantum Redshift they'll know that the use of shurikens as a racing weapon is not an entirely new concept! ;)

22nd July 2007, 03:34 PM

22nd July 2007, 04:30 PM
Heh, ta. My initial idea for the new ships was "sleeker, simpler, less fussy detail".

'Course, all that went out the window when I decided to add pilots, lights, decals and what-not ...

My eyeballs hurt.

Dogg Thang
23rd July 2007, 10:54 AM
Oooh! Are there working lights? I haven't seen these (the video footage I saw wasn't great on plain ol' IGN).

Do you mean cool little lights dotted around the ship for looks or actual headlights? I imagine it's got to be the former as the latter probably wouldn't serve a purpose.

23rd July 2007, 06:38 PM
Yeah, the former. They're just there to add scale, and look nice in tunnels.

24th July 2007, 12:04 AM
headlights ftw =D

Im a bit behind with my pulse news, but Im getting all excited again from what Im hearing. =)

The only bad thing about all this good news is Im going to have to get a job to afford all these new games =S

Just wanted to comment, to anybody that didn't know, you can download a hi-res version of the "official" vid mentioned earlier in the thread from Gamespot. Most of y'all probably already figured this out but I was late to the party-- it looks much better than the streamed version.

Is it me or has the Zone ship had a facelift? Check out the vid at about 1:20.

Dr. Angryman
26th July 2007, 02:41 AM
Yes, the Zone ship has changed in design. Looks better in my opinion. I love the fact that you can see the pilot and the interior of the cockpit through the window. Really nice touch! ;)

Mark Of Insanity
26th July 2007, 01:11 PM
I was hoping for Zone Ship liveries of normal Ag craft, but as I am not a massive fan of Zone, I am content. Yes, the new Zone ship does look more elegant that the last IMO.

Dr. Angryman
26th July 2007, 02:58 PM
I heard the Zone ships changed colors according to the team you chose. I'm guessing:

Dark green=Triakis

26th July 2007, 03:50 PM
Pink should be Icaras, Yellow is Goteki.

Mark Of Insanity
26th July 2007, 05:29 PM
I'd have put red at AG Sys and orange on Piranha, but then Goteki wouldn't be able to have orange, and the orange and yellow look largely similiar, so your guesses seem mostly correct, then what Task said. But I think Feisar would be Aqua or something, would it not?

Dr. Angryman
26th July 2007, 07:13 PM
All these colors! Let's just wait until the game comes out, eh? ;)

I've a concern about the circuits in Zone mode. Are the colors different from circuit to circuit, or are they the same shades of cool blue and green? It would be kinda neat to see a zone circuit in red (like the third prototype circuit in Wip3out). What do you think? :)

Edit: On one of the screens on IGN, I saw a circuit in a bronze-ish kinda color. This proves that Zone circuits will have different colors.

26th July 2007, 11:41 PM
Even though I'm a huge fan of WO2 Qirex, Icaras deserves ''purple'', too, or whatever colour that is that you see in the main body of my avatar ship.

RJ O'Connell
27th July 2007, 12:36 AM
Here's what I'm thinking:

FEISAR - Light Blue
AG Systems - White
Auricom - Navy Blue
Qirex - Purple
Piranha - Red
Triakis - Greenish Grey
Assegai - Khaki - Delta group team FTW! (brave new world reference, anyone?)
EG-X - Maroon
Goteki 45 - Orange
Icaras - Pink (Pink is a form of Purple, Lance. Just a brighter one. :D)
Mirage - Green
Harimau - Yellow

27th July 2007, 12:36 AM
I think of it as "Plack" - as in Purpleblack.

27th July 2007, 01:01 AM
Wicked News!!!!!

What about the PS3 though? I picked mine up last week and I am very impressed so far, F1 looks very impressive, can't wait for more details on the PS3 version of Pulse.

Let the good times roll!

its not a ps3 version of pulse, its wipeout hd. just to help.

Dr. Angryman
27th July 2007, 02:33 AM
It's actually a mix of both Pure and Pulse. Seen the Playscope trailer recently?

Mark Of Insanity
27th July 2007, 04:54 PM
I doubt that Harimau would be yellow, but it does make me wonder, what colour would it be...?

Dr. Angryman
28th July 2007, 10:00 PM
I'm not even sure what color it's going to be in the game. It's for a download.
You bring up a good point, though!

RJ O'Connell
29th July 2007, 03:32 AM
Well Mirage will be a download and we all know what colour that ship will be in zone. (IIRC, first purely Green ship since Kel Solaar in WO1.) Harimau has to be yellow since their other two colours, aqua/teal and orange, are likely taken by other teams (FEISAR and Goteki 45 respectively.)

So now I'm waiting for the Leipzig Games Convention, and the launch of the official sites.

Dr. Angryman
29th July 2007, 04:30 AM
Sony says that something absolutely amazing will happen at Leipzig. Let's hope it involves WipEout! ;)

Oh, and another thing. I read on Wikipedia that the Anasazi were a Native American tribe located in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona. This makes it clear where the Pulse circuit is going to be located.

RJ O'Connell
29th July 2007, 03:47 PM
Angryman: If (by now it's a small if) it turns to be true, you know who wildly guessed it correctly first! ;) :D

Diverging from topic slightly, Leipzig Games Conference is supposedly going to be bigger than E3 was in 2006 (before the downsizing and de-spectacle-ating.) Anyone willing to sneak me on a plane bound for Germany? (as if.)

New circuits: There is a circuit based in a natural environment, and I'm happy about that. It's not all Delta-esque. I really like the tundra circuit. Nice and icy! Didn't catch the names though....

Weapons: Plasma looks FIERCE! A spinning black hole of DOOM! Missile looks almost the same, but I had no problem with it in the first place. The rockets.... are BEAUTIFUL!

Oh yes that looks soooo cool 8) I don't know about those rockets though, can you still hit one ship with all three rockets? They looked a little spaced out.

5th August 2007, 12:23 PM
Stupid me, clicked the link. I swore to myself not to view any Pulse preview material. Anyway, closed it after about 10 seconds. Video quality sucks. The song really is good. I wonder if it's just preview material or from, the soundtrack. I hope it's not a special arrangement for Pulse's intro.

I watched it in high-res, and thought it looked rather nice myself.

The music is from the original version of Exceeder, but it is sort of a sample - playing the first bit of the song and then skipping to later on in the track.

Nice trailer. The environments seem more varied than the initial shots suggested. I'm so looking forward to it. Didn't say a date - do we have one yet?

RJ O'Connell
5th August 2007, 03:40 PM
Nope. Listed in USA as "To Be Determined."

Hopefully we can get an announcement around or during the Leipzig convention...and maybe the official site launch will come around soon...

I want it SEPTEMBER! I don't want it when Halloween comes! :(

How did you see it in hi-res? Or do you just mean at the higher of the two vid qualities presented on the webpage?

Just curious... I'd love to see it in a proper resolution on Quicktime!

RJ O'Connell

Higher of the two video qualities.

Lotsa karma to Angryman I say :rock

Love it. Just love it. The coastal track would be called Moa Therma, I reckon.

I love tha color pattern of these previews. Still flashy and colored, but so much more real than Pure (which was already awesome). It's like a hybrid of 2097, Wip3out and Pure. Love the violent colors. Love the dark. Love the greys.

C'mon people, should be less than a month now :hyper

Well, thanks for the compliment, Riccardo! :)

I really love the colors. As you said, their just so much more realistic than Pure. Almost PS2-quality graphics. Great! :rock

6th August 2007, 09:08 AM
most sites have Pulse listed for retail at the end of Oktober 2007... muhuuuu

That is 2,5 months away from now.

Maybe a nice demo would be nice to keep us happy :beer

I think with all the problems concerning the Pulse Preview Code that's not going to happen. Besides, personally I don't want to ruin my appetite (for destruction?)

Rapier Racer
6th August 2007, 06:49 PM
Yeaah how typical is that :(

Never mind if that is the date, technically it's not a delay cos SL didn't give a concrete September release, now, on the other hand if you happen to be a die hard GTA fan, geeeez lol

6th August 2007, 07:26 PM
i just think it's because those sites who sell WO Pulse have to give an exact date to sell their games.
They will certainly have problems if they propose Pulse the 5th of September if this one actualy comes out the 10th for exemple.
As us, they don't really know when the game exactly launches I think, they have to give an approximation date to be sure to cover their asses.
Well, that's my feeling, maybe I'm wrong...

RJ O'Connell
6th August 2007, 07:48 PM
When Wipeout Fusion was soon to come out the release date was pushed back twice within a month. And I had it reserved as far back as 2001. (I was anticipating a good game. How dumb.) But for awhile it didn't have a concrete release, and for a year I thought it would never be released.

I personally don't mind waiting for Pulse. I just want to know how long I would have to wait, that's all. That's the harder part.

6th August 2007, 07:52 PM
well I think it better be late and good than on time and rushed with lots of bugs! 8)

RJ O'Connell
6th August 2007, 07:58 PM
I've been bitten by that before - sometimes waiting awhile doesn't necessarily mean the game will not be buggy and sub-par. Gran Turismo 2 anyone?

The difference is, Wipeout Pulse looks like the best installment of the series since Wipeout XL. And that's just from the trailers I've watched!

Amen to that! :p It certainly looks a little better than Pure, but we have to wait and see how it handles.

For now, I'm just going to watch this thread like a fox.... :)

The official Italian PSP website still has September set for the release.

My pleasure, Angryman.

Dr. Angryman
6th August 2007, 10:31 PM
I hope September is also the release date for the U.S. version. *sigh* I want my Pulse now! :frown:

Riccardo Raccis
6th August 2007, 10:38 PM
I really wanna experience the release of the downloads. I only bought Pure after Omega came out so I missed the whole wait-for-the-next.

Dr. Angryman
6th August 2007, 10:40 PM
Waiting for downloads is funner than waiting for the game, though, eh?

Riccardo Raccis
6th August 2007, 10:43 PM
Yeah, guess so. Waiting for the game sure is torture.

But I also want my Icaras, and Mirage.

Life is wonderful.

RJ O'Connell

That was uploaded to YouTube yesterday, though I hesitated to post it.

And it's nice to know the quality of the preview game players are improving, even if he/she is bouncing off the walls.

That 90-degree sweeping curve at Moa Therma looks like something out of a roller coaster. That is AWEXOME to the extreme.

Dr. Angryman
7th August 2007, 11:33 PM
You mean that sideways loop?

RJ O'Connell
7th August 2007, 11:35 PM
90-degree banked curve, sideways loop, same difference. (No it's not RJ!) :D

Hopefully the web team is hard at work on wipeoutpulse.com...

(500 posts! Woo!)

8th August 2007, 05:28 AM
That's still from the promo. Look at the weapon effects.

8th August 2007, 06:53 AM
Yeah I thought so - the machine gun effect looks rubbish and just like the pure rocket.

Can't wait for the Pulse!

RJ O'Connell
8th August 2007, 12:52 PM

That's exactly why I hesitated to post that. What the hell is that proton cannon wannabe? It looks like the freaking laser from EXTREME G for the N64!!!

Dr. Angryman
8th August 2007, 01:15 PM
The cannon does look kinda ugly, don't it? It just looks weak and flimsy compared to the rockets. Thankfully, this is an old promo, and this stuff has probably been worked out. As for the music, HELL YEAH! :rock

RJ O'Connell
8th August 2007, 01:25 PM
^ Agrees. This will blow away the one in Pure, even if you couldn't add custom tracks to the Pulse Soundtrack. ;)

Rapier Racer

I notice that the camera angles down towards the ground during the "loopy" magstrip sections. I hope this is fixed (some people may like it, but to me it's just weird.)

9th August 2007, 05:32 PM
wipeoutpulse.com got a "coming soon..." :)

RJ O'Connell
9th August 2007, 10:33 PM
But just how soon is "soon"?

Dr. Angryman
9th August 2007, 11:09 PM
I hope it's sometime this month.... For now, school has to fill my WipEoutless induced boredom with education induced boredom. :p I hope SL releases the site soon.

....Great! :g I can't wait until it comes out! I just hope the site doesn't contain too much information about Pulse. I don't like spoilers! :frown:

Flashback Jack
10th August 2007, 07:34 PM
Just noticed that there's activity on http://www.wipeoutpulse.com. A few days ago, the domain was reserved by a hosting company. Now there's a simple "coming soon." Probably means we can expect our livery designer RSN (real soon now).

Rapier Racer

The domain was reserved an age ago, I check it most days but forget sometimes, but not max no he is always sharp as a tac! I'm sure he'll be the first one of us on it when it goes live. (Foxy & Co at SL excluded, that would be cheating :g)

RJ O'Connell
11th August 2007, 01:56 AM
But what happens when Max could *shock* go to sleep and I'm the only user online (like I am usually at these hours because of my location)?

11th August 2007, 12:21 PM
I should look up for a program or script for my browser that automatically informs me when the site's changing in (kilobyte) size. With auto reload of course.
Yes. I should do that.

Dr. Angryman
11th August 2007, 01:47 PM
Sausehuhn, how do you do that? :? I woul love that on my computer, but when it comes to software and programs.... Well, they're not my strong points.

11th August 2007, 02:04 PM
Ahaha, I don't do it actually. That's why I said "I should look for some program" ;)

just did a short search on google. There's a programm called "Website watcher" for Windows. You could get that. There's also a freeware version available.
I could search for a program that does the same for my Mac now, but... no... I let you be 1st with that website-thingie ;)

STATUS UPDATE: Not launched Monday evening

The Gracer
13th August 2007, 10:04 PM
oh the suspense!!!

its too painful to wait Rob - cant you just smuggle a copy out and send it to me, and we will call it a late birthday present? :p Im good at keeping secrets :D

Still no action on the site, i checked at 10:20 am NZ time.

RJ O'Connell
13th August 2007, 10:53 PM
Guys! Be patient!

Most of the guys at SL aren't even awake yet, unless they're graveyard shift and planning on launching the site around 2-3 AM local time...oh there I go again, speculating. >_>

STATUS UPDATE: Bah, looks like it won't be for awhile. Oh well, gives me something else to do.

Dr. Angryman
14th August 2007, 01:24 AM
Sorry RJ, patience is a luxury reserved for the rich and SL themselves! :g
Keep the updates.... up. :p

14th August 2007, 12:21 PM
Checked Dutch site psponly.nl

Release TBA... :? Still no date uh.

14th August 2007, 04:41 PM
6PM and still no Pulse website. I don't know how hard Sony work SL, but they might all be going home now.

14th August 2007, 05:59 PM
as the very famous (north)american saying says: guys, keep your panties on!
and it doesn't refere to trousers!

14th August 2007, 09:02 PM
I'll put you all out of your misery - you shouldn't expect it for a while yet. A "proper" holding page will appear sooner than the finished site, so when you see that you'll know it's not far off.

Dr. Angryman
14th August 2007, 10:10 PM
Awwww maaaaan.... I was hoping to see some update in two weeks.

14th August 2007, 10:56 PM
Well, better you know that it's not imminent than we have this thread turning into an unreadable 80 page topic full of "I checked again today, it's not there yet" posts! ;)

as the very famous (north)american saying says: guys, keep your panties on!

its 2am and I'm tired and hungry, that's my excuse...

15th August 2007, 06:21 AM
The official Dutch psp site has it listed for october.

15th August 2007, 09:44 AM
Yup, the UK website lists the same date:

Looks as though it has been delayed.

15th August 2007, 03:31 PM
I kinda figured that from the interview where it was said that they missed the launch title wagon, so october was pretty much expected on my behalf. I am just looking forward to the skin designer so i have some stuff ready to go by that time.
