I don't know how you guys are doing it, even though I've seen what lunar did on his record video. I've tried it his way for 5 sessions and couldn't even equal my old best time. I don't really know how the hell I got that 41:7, that's for sure! So it makes 2 of us.:D

For me there are three MAJOR checkpoints if you will, and three EXTREMELY MAJOR things to do.

Checkpoints, at the speed pad on the downhill the time should be under or right at 13 seconds on first lap. At the second split the time should be 24 or under, and at the buddha jump the time MUST be 29-30 on first lap and 30-31 the other two.

Things to do (other than the "little" things which is the whole race:frown:)
1. Get a VERY fast start, a left-right-left so you're blazing through the first corner so close to the walls you can hear your Playstation whining deciding whether to crash you or not.
2. After turning left at the first speed pad after the buddha jump, immediately turn back right, then left, straighten out to go past next curve. I think "click-click philosophy. The negcon should be a steady "click'click" from the left-right turning.
3. The turbo...at the last corner in the esses, look UP towards the starting grid. Don't keep looking right in front of the ship or it'll turn out worse for you...Look up and turn your ship right as you fire the turbo, sliding past the very inside of the curve and straighten right away, staying close to the right wall, until you get to the finish line at which point you've had a fast lap and can turn for the first speed pad...

I have had to write these things down for myself since I was getting frustrated trying to just remember them as I fired up the PS each session.

Honestly I don't know how Lunar races in external view, I feel like the nosecam (or whatever it is...) gives me further distance view to judge with.

Off-topic: Karbonis VR - Ugh. I need to play it without thinking of it as Karbonis. Otherwise I'm just disappointed when there are no undulating esses at the end. But I stink at Pure anyways so can't complain too loudly. Some other WO game has all my time wrapped up...

No esses = no Karbonis

No doubt I will draw down the lightning bolts on myself for bragging like this, but....

No esses = no Karbonis
I should clarify: there are esses, they just don't undulate at least nowhere near the extent they should.

BOOM!!! I hear thunder in the distance...;)

Yes I am feeling insulted especially by that Feisar time, Mr. Price.:o Awesome races!
I have to admit I've decided to give the TT another shot, and then SR is next. It will take awhile I know, since relying on the turbo fairy in SR is a very haphazard affair. She seems to be a bit fickle...especially when one stops believing in fairies.

Lance
19th June 2007, 01:45 PM
I knEW you couldn't leave TT alone! The drive for perfection. Yup.

I've met a quite a few fairies; they do exist. I used to be a constant visitor to their gathering places. ;) :D Yes, I know what that says about me. :g

I don't expect those race records to hold up for long at all; I just wanted to bask in the rare primacy. It's been almost three years since I last put in top times. This time, though, it's just a fluke because the contenders were otherwise occupied.

Lol, he's an old stoner:p - nothing wrong with that :)

Lance
19th June 2007, 05:43 PM
Well, actually that's not what it says about me. :D Never was into the stoner thing. That time I got totally nauseous from being drunk and smoking weed for the first time put me right off it. [Not drunk for the first time, no. ;) Just weed for the first time.]

Medusa
19th June 2007, 09:26 PM
I just couldn't help myself today. Honest, I tried. I even played Pure to try to stop myself. But back I went to Karbonis.:p And made an interesting discovery: a 42:6 second or third lap is possible!!:o The first race I got it I was so surprised I missed the first speed lap of the next lap unfortunately.
I would have kept going for a lower time (greedy girl that I am), but my thumb is still pretty tender. Fortunately that spot isn't needed for my teeny little PSP d-pad!

126 42:0 - 43:0 - 42:6

(Arnaud, you are scaring me with all those fast F3600 times. Stop it! Just kidding. Nice work.:clap)

I've met a quite a few fairies; they do exist. I used to be a constant visitor to their gathering places. Yes, I know what that says about me. Really? In Florida? No way!;) ROFL

I had been wondering whether two 42:7s in a row could be done.:+

I think I'll race again tomorrow...I think I might have a faster time in me yet, and I'd like to be sure my best is up on TT before trying to chase down Sir Lancelot's FEISAR.:pirate

(off-topic, but only slightly)

Lightning struck last night and the turbo fairy granted me at least 5 turbos in one race in SR :bat ending up with a 2:09 race and 40:6! lap time. Sweet:D

I didn't have the patience to keep going after that TT perfect time. IMPOSSIBLE!!! (watch, now Al will show up and post a 2:06 or something...) So I think it's time I work on Rapier some more.

Thanks guys, this TT challenge is the most gruelling wipeout I've EVER played. Task you are the taskmaster of challenges!

No, it's not truly the same game, nor the same machine, so there's no direct comparison between times achieved on original Playstation 1 or 2 with original WO.

lunar
8th December 2007, 07:48 PM
Yes Medusa your PS1 came back home pretty fast. :lol Impressive response I have to say.

About using PSP version, aside from the fact that we probably should all have the same hardware in a challenge, I think it`s based on the PAL version which produces massively bigger times, and it`s also massively harder on the PSP. You`d be at such a massive disadvantage it would probably be hopeless trying to compete.

phl0w
8th December 2007, 08:27 PM
I see, thanks for the answers!

Lance
9th December 2007, 05:13 PM
Using the correct hardware also allows one to enter times in the records tables, as we pretty much all did.

phl0w
9th December 2007, 09:22 PM
What's that got to do with my question?
I just wanted to know if WO1 times on PSP were legitimate. It could've been, but what with the game being emulated and such (and the PSP's not having a PS1-cpu like the PS2) I figured that much anyway.

Lance
10th December 2007, 01:51 AM

Oooh Mr.Isles this is a cold, cold war you have started over Karbonis! :naughty
First you take away the TT race time on venom and then TT lap time on Rapier!! :pirate

It is such a hard drug, I had forgotten...I tried a little Altima and Silverstream, thinking I'd improve my times on the other tracks and leave this baby well enough alone. But one lap and I am hooked again! One session to regain the pitch control callous, another to get below 2:09, another to get into the 2:08 range, and just today do I manage to get into the 2:07s!
OCD is on its way, I am hooked on this #$#%% track again and maybe I'll still be chasing your race time when I'm old and grey! It is just so absolutely addictive working on this track I can't believe I'm still racing it.

JABBERJAW
7th August 2012, 02:30 AM
I'm entering this challenge only 5 years too late! Medusa motivated me to do this track after our tournament, and there were a few records I wanted to try for after the tournament, this being one of them. I wanted to beat the perfect time of 2:07.1. Night one resulted in a 2:09.3, but I had decent laps, good enough for perhaps a 2:08. Night two, after a couple hours of grumpiness I hit 2:07.2, was very pyched as I got the record by .1. With a lap time of 41.7 ( not the record). Night three produced a lap tie at 41.6, but only a 2:07.3. Today, I hit 2:07.1 three times, THEN HIT a 2:06.9! Very psyched about this one. 41.8-42.3( best lap two)-42.8 (not happy with this one). I also had earlier hit a 41.5 lap ( once). I was shooting for 2:06.7, but may be done with this for now, as it gets very frustrating. Just a note: after getting the sub 2:07, I played a bit more and got a 41.3! I don't know where this came from, but the lap was good. There are about 20 little pitch things you got to do on a lap, and I don't even know if I'm doing it right sometimes.

So a theoretical best time. 41.3 42.3 42.3. 2:05.9

A likely best time though I think might be around 2:06.5 if some is willing to play ALOT, and get a bit lucky as well

This was by far the hardest record on wo1 that I have tried to get. 100 kudos to Medusa and Lunar, those are great times

Now that I'm thinking about it, I might give it one more try ( OCD is right!)

I also want to note that I read this ENTIRE thread before racing, and watched lunars 2:07.7 YouTube video, which was helpful

Medusa
8th August 2012, 03:16 AM
OMFG I am going to go die now.

"This was by far the hardest record on wo1 that I have tried to get." That bit would make me feel better, except I remember the time and aggravation lol.

Congratulations on this Al, this is a spectacular, spectacular time, one for the wo legends IMO. Don't you dare play it on SR now, if you take away my 40:6 I really might just die.

WOW.

P.S. You deserve a cake for this record :cake:robot:beer
Congrats again!

I like chocolate cake with vanilla frosting :) thank you for pointing out this record to me and how difficult it is. I do remember trying it during your battles, did a perfect race and wasn't even close to your record, and basically said #}{% this, its way too hard. :) I'm in the middle of that agrivation now, look at these starts to three separate races

1). 41.9- 42.1!
2) 41.7-42.3
3) 41.6- 42.5
