Ill get a last try with Karbonis challenge ( kicking arse from dear Lance ;) )when i finish updating ntsc wipEout

18th June 2007, 06:59 PM
I don't know how you guys are doing it, even though I've seen what lunar did on his record video. I've tried it his way for 5 sessions and couldn't even equal my old best time. I don't really know how the hell I got that 41:7, that's for sure! So it makes 2 of us.:D

For me there are three MAJOR checkpoints if you will, and three EXTREMELY MAJOR things to do.

Checkpoints, at the speed pad on the downhill the time should be under or right at 13 seconds on first lap. At the second split the time should be 24 or under, and at the buddha jump the time MUST be 29-30 on first lap and 30-31 the other two.

Things to do (other than the "little" things which is the whole race:frown:)
1. Get a VERY fast start, a left-right-left so you're blazing through the first corner so close to the walls you can hear your Playstation whining deciding whether to crash you or not.
2. After turning left at the first speed pad after the buddha jump, immediately turn back right, then left, straighten out to go past next curve. I think "click-click philosophy. The negcon should be a steady "click'click" from the left-right turning.
3. The turbo...at the last corner in the esses, look UP towards the starting grid. Don't keep looking right in front of the ship or it'll turn out worse for you...Look up and turn your ship right as you fire the turbo, sliding past the very inside of the curve and straighten right away, staying close to the right wall, until you get to the finish line at which point you've had a fast lap and can turn for the first speed pad...

I have had to write these things down for myself since I was getting frustrated trying to just remember them as I fired up the PS each session.

Honestly I don't know how Lunar races in external view, I feel like the nosecam (or whatever it is...) gives me further distance view to judge with.

Off-topic: Karbonis VR - Ugh. I need to play it without thinking of it as Karbonis. Otherwise I'm just disappointed when there are no undulating esses at the end. But I stink at Pure anyways so can't complain too loudly. Some other WO game has all my time wrapped up...

18th June 2007, 07:26 PM
No esses = no Karbonis

[off topic]
No doubt I will draw down the lightning bolts on myself for bragging like this, but....

Karbonis V Single Race Lap Records:

1 Lance Price --- USA ----- AG Systems -- 0:42:30
2 Lance Price --- USA ----- Feisar --------- 0:42:80
3 Jay West ----- Canada -- AG System ------ 0:43:20
4 Isadora Allen -- Canada -- AG Systems ----- 0:43:20
5 Arnaud Senand - France - AG Systems ---- 0:43:20
6 Rory O'Connell -- USA ----AG Systems ------ 0:44:90

19th June 2007, 01:35 PM
No esses = no Karbonis
I should clarify: there are esses, they just don't undulate at least nowhere near the extent they should.

BOOM!!! I hear thunder in the distance...;)

Yes I am feeling insulted especially by that Feisar time, Mr. Price.:o Awesome races!
I have to admit I've decided to give the TT another shot, and then SR is next. It will take awhile I know, since relying on the turbo fairy in SR is a very haphazard affair. She seems to be a bit fickle...especially when one stops believing in fairies.

19th June 2007, 01:45 PM
I knEW you couldn't leave TT alone! The drive for perfection. Yup.

I've met a quite a few fairies; they do exist. I used to be a constant visitor to their gathering places. ;) :D Yes, I know what that says about me. :g

I don't expect those race records to hold up for long at all; I just wanted to bask in the rare primacy. It's been almost three years since I last put in top times. This time, though, it's just a fluke because the contenders were otherwise occupied.

19th June 2007, 05:35 PM
Lol, he's an old stoner:p - nothing wrong with that :)

19th June 2007, 05:43 PM
Well, actually that's not what it says about me. :D Never was into the stoner thing. That time I got totally nauseous from being drunk and smoking weed for the first time put me right off it. [Not drunk for the first time, no. ;) Just weed for the first time.]

19th June 2007, 09:26 PM
I just couldn't help myself today. Honest, I tried. I even played Pure to try to stop myself. But back I went to Karbonis.:p And made an interesting discovery: a 42:6 second or third lap is possible!!:o The first race I got it I was so surprised I missed the first speed lap of the next lap unfortunately.
I would have kept going for a lower time (greedy girl that I am), but my thumb is still pretty tender. Fortunately that spot isn't needed for my teeny little PSP d-pad!

126 42:0 - 43:0 - 42:6

(Arnaud, you are scaring me with all those fast F3600 times. Stop it! Just kidding. Nice work.:clap)

I've met a quite a few fairies; they do exist. I used to be a constant visitor to their gathering places. Yes, I know what that says about me. Really? In Florida? No way!;) ROFL

WipeoutZone is full of crazy people

19th June 2007, 10:05 PM
Yes you are a nawty girl :naughty but that`s a great race. Terrific last lap too - what a stormer. :banzai

20th June 2007, 10:13 PM

42:1 - 42:7 - 42:7:D:D:D = 2:07:5

I had been wondering whether two 42:7s in a row could be done.:+

I think I'll race again tomorrow...I think I might have a faster time in me yet, and I'd like to be sure my best is up on TT before trying to chase down Sir Lancelot's FEISAR.:pirate

20th June 2007, 10:40 PM
Congrats! The 2:07.1 comes closer.

You're already ahead of my Feisar on racetime. Just not on laptime yet. There the Round Table Legends team still rules. ;)

21st June 2007, 07:46 AM
I'm waiting for that 2:12:8 to show up in the TT!:D If it's possible...

who`d have thought it!

Again, a super-fantastic race. :clap You are becoming a machine on Karbo with your lap times. Keep this up and you will become the nearest thing there is to autopilot in F3600 :robot;)

21st June 2007, 01:27 PM
Congrats master Kween :clap
Absolutely brilliant score!
can't imagine what it could be with a 41.7 opener :blarg

22nd June 2007, 02:31 PM
(off-topic, but only slightly)

Lightning struck last night and the turbo fairy granted me at least 5 turbos in one race in SR :bat ending up with a 2:09 race and 40:6! lap time. Sweet:D

I didn't have the patience to keep going after that TT perfect time. IMPOSSIBLE!!! (watch, now Al will show up and post a 2:06 or something...) So I think it's time I work on Rapier some more.

Thanks guys, this TT challenge is the most gruelling wipeout I've EVER played. Task you are the taskmaster of challenges!

RJ O'Connell
22nd June 2007, 03:34 PM
So now, with Medusa and Lunar "retiring" from the challenge, who will take the third spot?

22nd June 2007, 04:03 PM
I told ya lightning would probably strike if I bragged about having the top two laptimes! :o

23rd June 2007, 02:13 PM
ending up with a 2:09 race and 40:6!
:o 40.6 :o gasp!

And you kicked my arse on rapier grrrr you will pay for that ;), i need to find a track where i can definitely shock you :o

hmmm seems i found one starting with an A ... :beer

Now if you'll excuse me, the tips of my thumbs are screaming in agony. :D

11th July 2007, 03:10 PM
You have to post your time in the record table to make it count!

Go have a look at the first post in the thread, I explain it all there.

Good to have an 8th (and possibly a 9th?) in the challenge! 8 )

11th July 2007, 03:23 PM
Pretty hard but I will get here...

43.8, 44.2, 44.3= 2.12.3

11th July 2007, 03:42 PM
hmm.. when entering the times I just chose the 2nd track from the top as I was doing for 2 hrs in the game
so I accidentally entered my times for the wrong track! http://www.geocities.com/zargz/leenden/sad.gif sorry!
but now it's fixed - I entered 9:59:9 for both lap and race in terramax!
and by mistake 1 more 9:59.9 an Altima http://www.geocities.com/zargz/leenden/hm.gif
anyway now it's done!
btw I'm racing with black&white screen coz didn't find my rgb cable that gives color to the ntsc games on euro TVs ...

11th July 2007, 04:12 PM
Okay, you two are now in!

Great starting times, BTW.

Here's the standings thread (http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3919) if you haven't seen it already.

Nice entry times for both zargz and Stin.

How will we ever top this competition? To me it seems to be the ultimate test of every piloting skill in the book.

11th July 2007, 10:30 PM
Wow! Great time RJ! And nice entry times stin and zargz. Eeek I'm getting that worried feeling again...well maybe I'm safe for now.

We've surpassed that full grid! The euros are here.

12th July 2007, 02:53 PM
heh! made them over to years ago to use on msn!
I think it made them in photoshop .. http://www.geocities.com/zargz/leenden/phm.gif hmm ..

Hey, if I can go under 2:09 with a d-pad, you should easily be able to do so too, with your rumoured WO1 expertise. At least I've only heard you're really good...

12th July 2007, 05:17 PM
wow! so the spreading of those false rumors finally payed off! http://www.geocities.com/zargz/leenden/well.gif

You guys just can't let a poor pitiful old man keep any glory. ;)
Oh.. wait. Racing is a competition. :o

12th July 2007, 06:22 PM
I see that my Feisar times are under attack by stevie. :)

LOL! Lance, I almost beat you but I got hit a wall on first lap! and it went 44.5,44.5,44.8= 2.13.80

But, I will keep trying.;) Btw, very good score for you and yes I`m closing in maybe tonight. ;)

12th July 2007, 08:00 PM
My top 5 Feisar times are:

I've hit my best lap of 43.5 about 4 times, but there's got to be a faster lap available. I tried racing today, but I sucked. I equaled the BL, but that was as good as it got; couldn't get under the 2:13.2 in that session. Just had no concentration.

12th July 2007, 09:45 PM
Not bad for an Old Ff..esar! http://www.geocities.com/zargz/leenden/8d.gif

new times:

15th July 2007, 08:05 PM
thank you kindly, m'am! :D and .. Ofcourse!
I'm secretly hoping to break 2:10. I think that's stins objective too .. or may be just to beat me no matter what??!
then we'll take it from there. :)
Haven't raced this track for a couple of days. How about you? weeks?

stin: I knew you wouldn't post till you beat my times! I can read you like an open book Hunter-man!! http://www.geocities.com/zargz/leenden/lol.gif
a question: is it the competitive spirit or are you just trying to pay back for the scottishGP? http://www.geocities.com/zargz/leenden/pq.gif

15th July 2007, 08:13 PM
I haven't raced Karbonis on Venom for weeks. Maybe months I don't remember! Karbonis on Rapier, though...that I raced last week. Arnaud's lap times are bothering me.:sonar

15th July 2007, 08:19 PM
aw! that means it'll be easy for you to get back to venom and kick some male butt,
wich is all that there is around here, in the remote case of us breaking your 2:08 ..
not good! http://www.geocities.com/zargz/leenden/ninja2.gif

15th July 2007, 08:41 PM
it is a competitive spirit cos, I can`t remember on certain tracks:p

LOL!, you knew I would not post till I will beat your times?

Hmmmmmm.......very difficult question but the computer says..........no!

RJ O'Connell
22nd July 2007, 04:08 PM
You two need to work on sub-2:10 first, as a suggestion. ;) It would be a shame if you two were to eventually finish over a second behind this kid who's half your age and USING A D-PAD! :D [/ego]

22nd July 2007, 06:57 PM
LOL, but I have not played any wipeout for nearly two weeks due I`m just too busy doing other things but I`m might go this week.

RJ O'Connell
22nd July 2007, 09:32 PM
That's totally understandable - just wait until late August and I'll be griping about it myself >_<

Is anyone going to bump the thread? Fine. Guess I'll just have to scare everyone with another attempt to get to sub-2:08...hehehe...

2nd December 2007, 09:47 PM

8 D Congratulations! I thought this challenge was dead, but apparently not!

Current standings updated! (http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3919)

3rd December 2007, 10:17 AM
Wicked!! Scraping of the the last tenths. Amazing job! Congratulations.:+

3rd December 2007, 04:39 PM

i need my ps1 back.oh my goodness can i control myself i think i'm going to pass out it's ok i still have the lap record uh-oh what if he breaks that too? i need to get the 207.1 i need to get the 207.1...

Don't worry I'm not really in that much shock...:eek:eek

Very nice work Lunar. I mean that is unbeatable.:+ Kudos, and I bow to you. Well, curtsey.

3rd December 2007, 10:25 PM
Thanks :) Your 41.7 is truly unbeatable - I could go through my entire (and substantial) collection of neggies trying to just get even with that.

3rd December 2007, 11:00 PM
Brilliantissima mate !:eek

8th December 2007, 02:22 PM
Are times achieved in the official release for PSP allowed too?

8th December 2007, 06:43 PM
Not likely, since there is such a difference in gameplay...

By the way, I've gone back to the F3600, and I'm feeling particularly NAWTY...8) Let's see what I can do...:robot
Back with a vengeance. :evil

8th December 2007, 06:47 PM
Are times achieved in the official release for PSP allowed too?

No, it's not truly the same game, nor the same machine, so there's no direct comparison between times achieved on original Playstation 1 or 2 with original WO.

8th December 2007, 07:48 PM
Yes Medusa your PS1 came back home pretty fast. :lol Impressive response I have to say.

About using PSP version, aside from the fact that we probably should all have the same hardware in a challenge, I think it`s based on the PAL version which produces massively bigger times, and it`s also massively harder on the PSP. You`d be at such a massive disadvantage it would probably be hopeless trying to compete.

8th December 2007, 08:27 PM
I see, thanks for the answers!

9th December 2007, 05:13 PM
Using the correct hardware also allows one to enter times in the records tables, as we pretty much all did.

9th December 2007, 09:22 PM
What's that got to do with my question?
I just wanted to know if WO1 times on PSP were legitimate. It could've been, but what with the game being emulated and such (and the PSP's not having a PS1-cpu like the PS2) I figured that much anyway.

10th December 2007, 01:51 AM
Did I say or imply that my last post before this was an answer to the original question? Was that a requirement before I was allowed to post?

24th December 2007, 09:06 PM
Oooh Mr.Isles this is a cold, cold war you have started over Karbonis! :naughty
First you take away the TT race time on venom and then TT lap time on Rapier!! :pirate

It is such a hard drug, I had forgotten...I tried a little Altima and Silverstream, thinking I'd improve my times on the other tracks and leave this baby well enough alone. But one lap and I am hooked again! One session to regain the pitch control callous, another to get below 2:09, another to get into the 2:08 range, and just today do I manage to get into the 2:07s!
OCD is on its way, I am hooked on this #$#%% track again and maybe I'll still be chasing your race time when I'm old and grey! It is just so absolutely addictive working on this track I can't believe I'm still racing it.

Groan...good one, RJO, you had my heart rate rising a bit there.:robot

RJ O'Connell
3rd August 2008, 04:21 PM
I actually do plan on entering times there, the problem is I haven't been able to get in the sub-2:10 range since buying the neGgie, and so I have nothing groundbreaking to contribute like a 2:06.x or anything.

7th August 2012, 02:30 AM
I'm entering this challenge only 5 years too late! Medusa motivated me to do this track after our tournament, and there were a few records I wanted to try for after the tournament, this being one of them. I wanted to beat the perfect time of 2:07.1. Night one resulted in a 2:09.3, but I had decent laps, good enough for perhaps a 2:08. Night two, after a couple hours of grumpiness I hit 2:07.2, was very pyched as I got the record by .1. With a lap time of 41.7 ( not the record). Night three produced a lap tie at 41.6, but only a 2:07.3. Today, I hit 2:07.1 three times, THEN HIT a 2:06.9! Very psyched about this one. 41.8-42.3( best lap two)-42.8 (not happy with this one). I also had earlier hit a 41.5 lap ( once). I was shooting for 2:06.7, but may be done with this for now, as it gets very frustrating. Just a note: after getting the sub 2:07, I played a bit more and got a 41.3! I don't know where this came from, but the lap was good. There are about 20 little pitch things you got to do on a lap, and I don't even know if I'm doing it right sometimes.

So a theoretical best time. 41.3 42.3 42.3. 2:05.9

A likely best time though I think might be around 2:06.5 if some is willing to play ALOT, and get a bit lucky as well

This was by far the hardest record on wo1 that I have tried to get. 100 kudos to Medusa and Lunar, those are great times

Now that I'm thinking about it, I might give it one more try ( OCD is right!)

I also want to note that I read this ENTIRE thread before racing, and watched lunars 2:07.7 YouTube video, which was helpful

8th August 2012, 03:16 AM
OMFG I am going to go die now.

"This was by far the hardest record on wo1 that I have tried to get." That bit would make me feel better, except I remember the time and aggravation lol.

Congratulations on this Al, this is a spectacular, spectacular time, one for the wo legends IMO. Don't you dare play it on SR now, if you take away my 40:6 I really might just die.

P.S. You deserve a cake for this record :cake:robot:beer
Congrats again!

8th August 2012, 03:43 AM
I like chocolate cake with vanilla frosting :) thank you for pointing out this record to me and how difficult it is. I do remember trying it during your battles, did a perfect race and wasn't even close to your record, and basically said #}{% this, its way too hard. :) I'm in the middle of that agrivation now, look at these starts to three separate races

1). 41.9- 42.1!
2) 41.7-42.3
3) 41.6- 42.5

All three races in the final two turns heading for laps of 42.4-42.6 and }#%##. I should have hit 2:06.4 - 2:06.7. I would have been happy with that and quit, but now, no way. On a side note I feel like I am able to hit better laps more often now. However, it seems to leave all at once.

New theoretical time

41.3-42.1-42.1. 2:05.5

I think a 2:06.3 is doable now, but we will see, it will be very difficult
