why don`t you just go right through the game beating your old times with your new team? That might be more of a challenge - and you`ll find out how quick the Icaras really is.

argghhh! The fact I cant use downloads and that Icaras is faster than Zone & Medieval is sheer :bombhead . i'll eventually get Icaras from some non-official site a couple of years later. All because yourpsp.com wont accept PSP 1000s with Region 3 UMDs! It never accepts my serial number. If im doing something wrong, can someone tell me if the "serial number" is the one on the PSP or the one on the box.

the serial number is located underneath the battery. You have to take the battery out.

I don`t think it`s been established yet that Icaras is faster than zone or medievil. I`m not convinced about that - but am willing to be.

I don't know about Medievil, but it certainly feels no faster than Zone to me. That's just going by feel - if it is faster, it must be only very slight.

I find it's general performance to be only slightly better than Piranha because of acceleration, but the huge drop in adrenaline from using the purple and pink ship is certainly a deal breaker for me.

Piranha pride!

Are you guys from the UK? If so how did you get Icarus, I really want this ship but can;t seem to find it on UK download yet.

Cheers, Chris

nope, i'm in the US, and in cas anyone reading this was wondering i started again using only icaras, shouldn't take too long to catch up to my old medal count.

Icaras is only available through US version downloads as of yet. Should be available for Euro before the end of october, wasn't it posted somewhere that october 17th was the release for the second euro classic pack?

That's cause they're not in the UK, or if they are, they imported the US game, the Euro and US downloads are different, if you check the threads people have posted 2 threads, one for the US Classic Pack 3 and one for the Euro Classic Pack 1 - both came out on the same day, Euro previously got the Delta stuff which the US hasn't got so it's a matter of things coming in a different order, while we finish off getting the Classic stuff, the US will move on to getting the Delta stuff. So you can't get Icaras yet unless you have an imported US copy of the game. But the Euro Classic Pack 2 will include all the remaining Classic stuff so you will have Icaras soon, a couple of weeks probably.

If i get Icaras, i wont start over again. Instead ill use it to get from my current 70 golds to over 144 Purist. I just beat 4 Zone times in my newly unlocked Medieval. The Zone ghosts were from the time trials i used to get Medieval and i tried to beat those very ghosts by using Medieval. The sword-nosed catamaran finally beat Zone's Chenghou Project time after 30 laps of side by side dragging.

Oh dear.... Did you say you are using Zone and Medieval? Oh dear, Oh Dear....

Whats the problem? Have u not got them yet or do u think they are a hinderance? Zone and Medieval are only used in Time Trialing and Ghost Ship racing.

well they are out there, eventually they will graduate to real contenders and be much happier i would imagine.

Hey, ive only had Zone for 3 days and got Medieval today! Before that, Harimau, Assegai, Auricom and Piranha were my choices and Auricoms still my favorite, wat would WOP be without it. Piranha is the ruler in Vineta, Sol2 and Sagarmatha though, the very quick tracks. How come AIs never use download ships?

They use nothing but the AI ships in my game, currently the race lineup of most of my races consists of me in my Feisar against Puma1, Puma2, Goteki45, Tigron, Van-Über, Medievil and 1 of the original teams. I don't mind at all having Tigron, Van-Über or Goteki45 there as they are real teams but I'm sure we'll have to suffer more sponsored crap that further reduces the count of proper craft on the grid.

Zone and Medievil are cop-outs, I know this because I use the Zone to get the Gamma and Delta time-trials which are insanely hard. Really I shouldn't use the Zone in that circumstance as I know others have done the download times properly but I just don't have the skill/patience.

luck of the draw, I guess. Tigron, Goteki, Icaras and Van Uber show up in my races all the time.

I get the downloaded ships in races too. I only wish I didn't get the Medievil aswell...

I find that now I have the download packs the Medievil ship shows up far less than it did beforehand. I don't mind it as much as the "Pumex", 'cos I know that's just a Qirex that's had its soul sold to commercialism. ;)

According to stats, Icaras is totally better than Piranha. Heres a comparo:

Speed Thrust Shield Handling

Icaras 5 4 2 3

Piranha 5 2 3 2

Icaras has more points thrust and better handling. Piranha has a single point extra shield. Is Icaras actually better or is it just stats? Pretty soon, new players will be downloading and using Icaras before winning a single Gold medal! This is as bad as depending on Zone, but atleast Zone is locked.

A good player is one who can use a Piranha to win against 8 ships including overaggresive Triakis on Cita Nuova in Rapier, which has more aggresive AI than Phantom. That, I cant do in less than 40 attempts.[/list]

I don't think the Icaras is too overpowered. I can consistantly get better times with a Piranha over the Icaras.

There`s a lot of elitism about the zone ship, and possibly Icaras, here at the moment, but let`s not take it too far. We don`t want to end up like some Madden and Pro Evo sites where you have to prove the size of your cojones by claiming to only play on 6 stars or All-Madden with the worst team ever and all sliders on the max and never conceding a point or goal, dude. Most of this results in exaggeration/bs anyway. The gamma and some of delta time trials, as well as many others, are not easy with any ship. The only thing I have against zone is that if someone tries to use it against a pack of good players in multiplayer they will get fried consistently. The fact is that if you`ve beaten the gold medal time set by the developers with any ship provided then your gold medal is just as valid. I choose not to use zone because it`s got no character and it`s made of chip paper neatly folded into a micro millenium falcon. But if you can get all golds in this game with any ship: you`re good. I just want zone users to feel better - that`s all. :D

As for Icaras, I don`t think it`s all that amazing overall, really. Not for me at any rate.

Lunar makes a very good point here.

In the end, do you race with a certain ship because you ENJOY it and get a thrill out of it, or just because you think it will help you squeeze a few extra tenths of a second to the wire? I know that even though the Icaras is not really overpowered and is an historic team which has great pride behind it, the purple Cadillac of AG racers simply doesn't inspire me. Where's the rush? Where's the adrenaline? It gets the job done, sure - but that simply doesn't cut it for me once you compile the columns of plusses and minuses.

So, all of you who settle for playing what you think is a supership, why bother playing if you think that the whole game is about getting all medals as fast as possible and nothing else? Why deprive yourself of all this fun you can have? I've never completed all the medals myself, but in the end, that's not all there is to this game.

That makes me feel much better for taking my sweet time as a casual player in racking up, or should I say, not racking up the medals. I plan on playing this game for a LONG time. Might as well do it slowly so I don't get burned out and enjoy to the max.

In the end, do you race with a certain ship because you ENJOY it and get a thrill out of it, or just because you think it will help you squeeze a few extra tenths of a second to the wire?Well, the thing with wipeout is that the biggest thrill is squeezing a few tenths of a second out of the best ship to get the best time. But this really only applies to TT. I can see that I'd be quite happy to use Zone in Pure for challenging the top of the TT tables, simply because TT is about going as fast as possible. Although we still don't know whether Zone is the fastest ship anyway (I mean: low shield energy = few barrel rolls), and the great thing about Pure is that the ships seem (at this point in time) to be fairly well balanced.
Multiplayer racing is a different kettle of fish. It's not you versus the track, as it were; you're racing to win, but if you're using a supership just to win, then not only will it be not as much fun, it's basically cheating. There is a case for all players to race with the same supership for some games; but in an ideal multiplayer game, you'd have eight players who like eight different ships and who all have similar ability. Now that's what I'd call fun. :D

U r so right, Drak! Games r for fun, not Gold medals! After all, these Gold medals are only virtual symbols rotating slowly which hold pictures behind them. I've stopped driving Zones cause not onnly does its superiority pushes you on stupid racing lines and allows u to make mistakes, but also its no fun to beat everything without effort. I still like to race ghost ships in Medieval cuz I just cant help liking those sword-nosed catamaran looks. Others can find it ugly if they want, but its my opinion. :rock_on :P :banzai

Today I beat all my Zone ghost ships using Piranhas and Auricoms and scored my fourth ever AI kill by hitting AG Sys with a Quake which in-turn hurled him into a bomb and took him down in flames. Piranha rules! :D :) :cowboy :dizzy
