Howdy folks.
I have been trying to download the Gamma Pack from the WipeoutPure website for my PSP.
I have a European PSP and a European version of Wipeout and am trying to get the European gamma pack. I have registered at yourpsp.com.
I have had a few different problems.
1) At work it simply drops out quite quickly saying that the it cant get the file from the sever. (I guess this could be to do with company firewall).
2) At home it takes a little longer but then says that it cannot get the file from the server, either it is unavailable or I do not have permission.
3) One time it actually did something that looked like it was downloading, but when it finished it said that the file was corrupt and deleted it.

I have tried to connect with the wipeout browser but it doesn't like my network connection (as we are using WPA).

So, can I use the normal browser from my 2.0 firmware. If so what is the URL that the european wipeout browser will try and use (so that I can try that in my non-wipeout browser).
Or does anyone have any ideas what might be going on?

Cheers,
CC

first of all, firmware 2.0 DOES support WPA encryption as far as I know. try that again.

as for downloading via pc, try the official wipEout purE site instead of yourpsp.com.
www.wipeoutpure.com and click euro and choose your country.

Sorry I was probably not clear.
Whilst the PSP 2.0 firmware supports WPA, it seems that wipeout doesn't. If I try and select my network connection in wipeout it simply ignores the confirm button press. If I try and create a new network connection from within wipeout when it comes to the section on WEP/WPA it doesn't let you continue with WPA selected.

I get the same results if I try www.wipeoutpure.com as using www.yourpsp.com
:-(

Thanks for the suggestions

seems like you will have to resort to finding a public wi-fi hotspot (starbucks etc.) and try there.

If you are using Internet explorer from Microsoft, probably u haven't yet installed the Java virtual machine. It's mandatory if u want to download something from yourpsp / wipeoutpure.
The official site is http://www.java.com
From there you should see the link "Java software Download"

After you finished downloading and installing java, close all your open browser windows and try again on wipeoutpure.com (sometimes it may require a few attempts but it works as long as you have java installed)

Hope it helps :)

Cheers,
I have already jot the Java VM installed and up to date. I have tried with both IE and Firefox.

I think I will give the Starbuckssuggestion a try, I can at least get coffee while I am tearing my hair out :-)

If you're running Win XP, there's something else you might want to check:

Internet Options > Privacy > Advanced
Put a checkmark on "override automatic cookie handling" and "Always allow session cookies"

Windows is terrible at trying to automatically manage cookies.

And that's another quality product from microsoft.

If you do have another problem, try using another pc with and alternate OS such as Windows ME and use the usb mode. It worked first time for me :)

Hi Drakken.

Yep I am using XP, checked the settings and it should be allowing cookies, tried with your settings and still the same problem.

Mobius, I have tried on both my laptop and my main machine at home, as well as my machine at work, all to no avail. (Although they are all running XP, the OS shouldn't make a difference as XP is presumably the primary downlad environment).

I am wondering if their is some weird regionalisation issue going on. Both the PSP and the Wipeout Game were bought from a Sony shop, so should be EU versions, what would happen if one of them wasn't?

I have opened up the java console and put the trace output up to 5, and the last two messages it outputs are something about file not found. I don't suppose that someone who has it working could backup their copy and try and re-download it via their PC? That way I can rule out their server being down.

Thanks for the help guys, whilst going to a public wifi access point would presumably allow me to download via the wipeout online interface, I don't like the idea that I have to go to starbucks to update the game! I would really like to get this sorted!

Ok, I have made a little progress.
I enabled the console output on Java and got this when it was failing.

Entering the link to the zipfile allowed me to download the file. Opening it in winzip it looks good, it has a couple of .png files a pi.wad param.sfo and test.bin.
So now I have two questions.
A) Is this what gets copied to your memory card when the download works properly?
B) Assuming this is all of what I need, where do I put it? My guess is \PSP\*********

Cheers,
Paul.

Removed the exact url of the zip file

you have to put the whole folder (unzipped) into your SAVEDATA folder.

oh and do you really expect someone to read all this sh*t?

captain chickenpants
14th September 2005, 11:06 AM
Hmm, just tried that. (And no I wasn't expecting anyone to really read through that stuff, but if anyone was inclined to they might have been able to tell me why downoading it through their interface doesn't work properly.
Put the folder ********** into the PSP\SaveData.
Nothing new shows up in the SaveData utility, and their are no new skins are available in the game.

Looking at the other folders in the SAVEDATA folder they are mostly of the form
UCES00001xxxxx
The exceptions being my Lumines save data and the system settings. I am guessing that the folder has to have the correct name, can someone from the UK have a look and see what the name of the folder for the Gamma pack is please.

Thanks for the help guys,
Paul.

[edit] Removed name of zipfile to prevent direct link to content spreading

oh sorry, wasnt aware the folder is called euro...something. yes, it should indeed be called UCE..something. if it's not called like that, you have the wrong folder (the files you named were correct tho :? just the folder name is wrong)

captain chickenpants
14th September 2005, 11:18 AM
I think that the folder name that i have is wrong because the Java app is supposed to unpack it and copy the files onto the PSP. I think because I have downloaded the file manually (albeit from the correct server) that the folder name is wrong.
If you can tell me the correct folder name then I think it might all work.

I would really like to know why I am having to jump through hoops like this, it just seems to work for everyone else on the planet but not for me. :x

I hope I don't have to do this for every pack they release!

Paul.

unfortunately, I can't tell you the correct folder name, I only have the US version.

but why don't you do it the easy way and just go to the next public hotspot? Can't be too far away, or is it?

captain chickenpants
14th September 2005, 11:31 AM
No worries.

There aren't that many free hotspots here in the UK, and I don't fancy paying for the privelege of downloading something I should be able to get for free.

I have just remembered I have a friend who works at Sony who can probably find out if noone here knows it.

Finally got it downloaded.
Still not working properly through the official method, I have rang Sony and they are going to get back to me.

Renaming the Folder that I downloaded through the URL in the Java console worked though, so if the worst comes to the worst I should at least be able to get hold of the zip file that way, and then ask someone what I need to call the folder.

Thanks for the help guys,

Paul.

UCES00001DGAMMAPACK
UCES00001DDELTAPACK

gamma and delta pack folder names (I used the same method as you, thanks for the Java console idea as i had the same 'file not found' problem!)

I guessed the name of the folder based on what the gamma pack folder was and the new tracks show up - hooray!
thanks for the java idea, this is so annoying
I registered my psp, i bought the game and could not get this stuff....grrrrrr

If it's any consolation... there were also many issues with the JAP and U.S. downloads... the system is daft and often difficult to use, especially for MAC users. It shouldn't be, although I do suspect they'll be ironed out when the chargable content comes along

Glad I am not the only person who has had problems, and that the Java thing worked for you as well.
