Due to the large number of simple questions I've seen asked on here and on GameFAQs, I have compiled a list of the most common ones and answered them all in one post. If there are any more that need to be added, please let me know.

How come there are only eight tracks in this game?

Eight circuits might not seem like a lot, but what a lot of people fail to realise is that these courses feel remarkably different depending on which speed class you are racing on. You need to adapt as you advance, making these courses feel much different as you get faster. This is also forgetting the Classic league circuits that need to be unlocked, and also the four Zone courses. There's a lot more than meets the eye.

Classic league?

These circuits aren't actually available at the start, they need to be unlocked by obtaining gold medals. Karbonis requires that you gain golds in all Alpha and Beta Single Races in any one class, Sagarmatha needs 25 golds, Manor Top needs 40 and Mandrashee needs 60.

Why do the Classic tracks look so different from the others?

This was a time issue that Studio Liverpool had to deal with from the start. In order to make the release date for the game, the Classic circuits were created in a very minimalistic style so they could be created quickly in very little time in comparison to the others. It was always in Studio Liverpool's intention to make them this way.

Are there any extra craft that can be unlocked?

Yes, the Medievil craft can be unlocked once you have a total of 70 golds, and the Zone craft is available once you have golds in all four Zone courses.

Wow, the Zone/Medievil craft is so good! There's no point in using any other craf....

STOP! Stop right there. I've heard about how uber-l33t these craft are, how you can flatten anything in your way, how you can pound any time trial thrown at you, how you can conduct Beethoven's fifth symphony while mowing the lawn. Allow me to bring one little thing to your attention. The shields on these craft are absolutely appalling. You might not think much of this, but it makes a huge difference and brings this craft way down in the rankings of the veterans. Sometimes you get lucky and the AI may be lenient or downright rubbish at shooting, but more often than not they can be very aggressive and you will spend the entire race desperately absorbing everything you can. An unlucky weapon combo can leave you crippled if it doesn't destroy you straight off. Of course, in Multiplayer against a skilled pilot, these combos won't be unlucky, they'll be well planned and executed simply because to them you are piloting a giant target. Also, five speed and five handling is actually a very bad combination. The craft will feel very jumpy and difficult to keep in a straight line. Forget slight adjustment, even a small tap will cause the craft to lurch heavily, and the airbrakes are no use either. Finally, the poor shield will restrict your ability to barrel roll. If a craft with more shield frequently barrel rolls, they will keep up with you easily and blast you away.

If Drak or Martin wish to elaborate here, feel free. ;)

How do I go about unlocking...

There's a list in my guide detailing how to unlock everything in the game. It's near the bottom in its own labelled section.

What's this downloadable content I've heard of and how does it affect the game?

Wipeout Pure is unique in that extra content can be downloaded from the internet and added to the game to extend its longevity. The new content consists of 12 new circuits, 4 craft, 8 menu skins and 4 music tracks. There are also several sponsored packs exclusively available for various versions. These contain sponsored craft and skins and several current circuits rebranded by the sponsor.

How many versions of the game are there? Can I use any content with any version?

As far as we know, five. These are Japanese, US, European, Korean and Asian. They are all completely independent of each other and as such none of the downloadable content is compatible with the versions it has not been written for. Multiplayer is also dependent on all players using the same region game.

But I though the PSP was region-free! Why won't the packs work with other versions?

The PSP is indeed region-free. Any PSP can play any version of the game. However, the games are NOT region-free, and as such only content designed for that version of the game will work. You can download other versions, but your game will see it as foreign content and will not read it.

I downloaded the US content and it doesn't work! I'm using a US PSP...

There's your problem. The content is dependent on what version of the GAME you have, not what PSP you are using. Download the content for your version of the game.

So how do I get hold of these packs?

See the link at the top of the thread. it used to be the case that the packs were downloadable free of charge through Sony's official in-game servers. However, these have long since been taken down and it is no longer possible to access the packs via official means.

What about the Asian version?

Sorry, you're out of luck. The Asian version is exempt from the downloadable content schedule and will only ever have the standard set-up available, this is why it is cheaper than other versions. Be very careful before you buy.

Is there any way I can get other packs to work with my version of the game?

No, and we wouldn't tell you even if there was. This would involve altering the coding of the pack, which is a copyright violation. Each region requires a unique set of packs to work with it, and so they will not work natively with other versions.

Will <insert sponsored pack here> be released for my version?

Depends on what SCE in your region decide and also if there are any companies want to sponsor a pack. The current sponsored packs are the WIRE05 and Coca-Cola packs, and the European version has a Puma-sponsored version of the Delta Pack with two new craft. Keep an eye on the official site for info, and please don't bug anyone on here about new stuff, it'll only irritate them.

What is the Omega Pack?

Omega is an exclusive pack released only for the European versions. It features four new circuits, craft and skins each designed by a professional artist. The names involved in this project were Jon Burgerman, Mark James, Neil McFarlane and Scien. There are no plans to release this pack for any other versions, so please don't bug anyone. Videos of the new circuits and craft can be found here:

http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2872

How do I change the colours of the craft? I've seen different colour schemes on the official site.

You need to unlock Livery mode to do this by beating Flash Ascension tournament. Then press left/right on the craft select screen to change liveries.

I'm searching for multiplayer games, but I'm not finding any. What's happening?

Wipeout Pure is ad-hoc only. There needs to be other players near you hosting a game or searching for a game in order for it to work. You can play online using Xlink Kai, go here for details on using it:

http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2148

That's all for now, if there are any more that need adding, please let me know. Thanks guys! ;)

What an amazing job!
Can't wait to put in practice your advises.

It will be perfect when blueprints of the tracks will be available.

blueprints of the original 8 tracks are available on the official purE site, in the tracks section.

Your guide has definitely shaped up to be the definitive reference for Wipeout Pure. Superb, and up to date to the last downloadable pack! An awesome offering, dude.

Drakkenmensch

It's a reference to a german candy making company called "Haribo", their slogan is "Kids and grown-ups love it so, the happy world of Haribo!"

Hellfire_WZ
13th September 2005, 09:25 AM
Yeah that's right, but there's a little more to it than that. It was a common line used to tease Colin about the Harimau while the game was in development. Couldn't resist dropping it in myself.

Sausehuhn
13th September 2005, 01:55 PM

I'm sure Harimau has it's own wine gums. But no bears, maybe small ships or something ;)

Because, like Flash, the name is just... well... not Wipeout IMHO. :)

eLhabib
14th September 2005, 10:58 AM
well, I think 'harimau' is not that unfitting as a name. I was more disturbed by the sound of 'triakis'. sounds too pseudo-sophisticated for wipEout IMHO

Drakkenmensch
14th September 2005, 12:25 PM
Harimau certainly has the asian sound befitting a malaysian team, and Triakis sounds like something pompous created by a consultant team using a focus group of average joes fed Krispy Kremes and cheap coffee, while some high ranking military corporate types look upon them through a one way mirror and congratulate each other for being so brilliant on their naming strategy.

"Triakis" would be the product ultimately excreted by such a process.

eLhabib
14th September 2005, 12:52 PM
I don't know, triakis to me sounds like a warring race from babylon 5.

the Triakis (like 1 Triaki, some Triakis)

'Captain! Fuzzy Lumpkins, the commander of the Triakis Battleship, is calling through viacom.'
'Bring him up'

Al-Vaskei Mk-II !
That's a weird name!

Hellfire_WZ
21st September 2005, 04:33 PM
I'm changing it to Team Quantax, there's a few peeps on here that are much better at coming up with names and backstories than I am. :)

randomperson1
21st September 2005, 04:45 PM
Yeah. Good Idea. I thought it would be a good idea to keep al-vaskei with just the one.

Drakkenmensch
21st September 2005, 05:26 PM
Random: your Al-Vaskei backstory is very cool. I always felt that the arab oil princes would be the first to leap into the AG racing game, financing their multi-billion dollar-pound team with the change they fished out of the cracks in their sofa :)

randomperson1
21st September 2005, 05:32 PM
thanks. I wasn't sayin' that al-vaskei should go, just that it didn't deserve two ships, that's all, just to make it clear.

I'm gonna try and get version 1.02 sorted tomorrow once Coke Pack 3 is out.

randomperson1
22nd September 2005, 04:09 PM
where did team quantax come from?
is it just me or is that name a little too much like Qirex

Drakkenmensch
22nd September 2005, 04:44 PM
Indeed it does, which makes perfect sense once you look up the Qirex history and find that "Quantax" is the model name of the Wipeout 2097 Qirex craft. Sort of like how Nissan makes the Sentra and the Altima. Since the Puma II ship looks so much like the old Qirex, I wrote up a story explaining how the pre-Tigron engineers of the bought-out Qirex staff got back together but one of them disapproved of the Pure version of the Qirex ship, eventually founding her own team based on the 2097 model design using Puma sponsorship money.

v1.1 will be submitted to GameFAQs on Friday once JP Classic 1 is out. New stuff and changes are as follows:

- Details for Icaras added
- Guide for Altima VII added
- Rearranged downloadable content into regions
- Addition of US Classic 3, JP Classic 1 and 2, and EU Classic 1 to downloadable content
- Addition of Messij and Operatique to soundtrack section
- Added release dates to all current download packs
- Added disclaimer above entries for Vaskei and Quantax stating they are fan-fiction and the names are not official.
- Added a list of gold medal ranks

Next update will be either in line with the release of JP Classic 2 or my acquisition of another version

EDIT: I'm not feeling too good at the moment so the update will be delayed for a couple of days.

EDIT 2: The update will be delayed even further as I have now acquired the Euro version!

Great FAQ Hellfire.

I had an idea.
How about a medal breakdown for each of the versions.

This would include;
The number of medals achievable on the original disc
The number of medals achievable for each of the downloads
The total number of medals achievable

Is it worthwhile including this information?

Hellfire_WZ

Possible, I'll see how it pans out.

First thigs first, Great faq! Love it!

One little question though, It says the Goteki45 team is intoruced in the Japanese "Classic" pack, although i have this pack and there appears to be no Goteki.

I took a look at this page: http://www.playstation.jp/scej/title/wipeout/download.html Which i'm sure you're all firmiliar with, and conviniently I read and speak Japanese, so i can say for sure that the G45 skin and ship are coming on Friday the 21st at 1pm.

... But i'm sure you Wipeout guys already know that XD.

Anyway, that might be something to tweak in the next version ^^

Hellfire_WZ
17th October 2005, 07:50 AM
Yeah, that's something that has already been corrected. I've listed all packs in each region now as at the time of writing the last version I was under the impression the Japanese Classics would be the same as the US ones. I've pretty much only got the new track guides to do now.

The update is gonna be delayed for even longer now with the release of Classic 2 for the Euro version (and the small matter of a new girlfriend :))

Right, because of all the random crap I've got going on at the moment, I'm submitting an intermediate version (v1.05) that'll contain all the info for 1.1 minus the Classic 2 track guides which I'll have to do later. Should be up by tomorrow morning.

Right, time for another update. I'm currently working on version 1.07 which I hope will be completed within then next day or so (barring any work or social gatherings or the like). Here's a list of what's new:

- Details for US Delta Pack 1, JP Classic Pack 3 and EU Omega Pack added.
- Guides for Altima VII, Odessa Keys, Porto Kora and Vohl Square added.
- Analysis for the Klor, Turboweevel, Cardracer and Haironaut added. F-37 Talon craft listed.
- Corrected the record label for CoLD SToRAGE in the Soundtrack section and added his website to the Links section.
- Time Trial target tables added to circuit listings.

Omega circuits will be analyzed in the next version.

Thanks for your patience guys, one of these days I'll get round to actually finishing the damn thing.;)

Heh, I'd love to think I was a sweet expert, but I'm one of those people who just eat them and is satisfied. ;) I'd love to do a Burnout: Legends guide at some point, but the small matters of not being able to afford it and not having enough time prevent me. I'll definitely keep it in mind though.

If you would all like to divert your attentions to the first page of the topic, I have set up a frequenty asked questions section to answer all of the simple questions that tend to pop up on here and GameFAQs. Please let me know of any others that you feel need adding.

I WILL get round to updating the guide at some point too, I've just been really bogged down with work lately (...oh alright, I'm spending a lot of time with my girlfriend as well ).

You can use the charging cable from the Vita, part of it is a standard USB cable so unplug it from the AC Adaptor and plug it into your PC with the Vita. From there go into content manager on the Vita and select copy files and you should see PC --> VITA ;)

FYI the Vita may try to install a content manager app onto your PC, install it if it does ask and you'll be good to go!
