View Full Version : Wipeout 20th Anniversary Race Weekend - September 26th/27th

September 29th, coming up soon, will mark 2 decades of Wipeout. Let's celebrate the occasion!

I'm organising a number of races and meetups across all Wipeout games during the preceding weekend of the 26th and the 27th. I'm hoping that we can all dig out our old consoles and have a bash at our favourite wipeouts :)

So this is what I've come up with.

Over the course of the weekend, play the wipeout games of your choice and record your race results here: http://tinyurl.com/pnvgxrf
For every combination of game, track, speed class and play mode, your races will earn points for you and the team you were flying for!
This will run for all games, throughout the entire weekend. At the end, the records will all be tallied up and podiums awarded to the players and the teams!
Enter all your offline race results here: http://tinyurl.com/pnvgxrf

Since WOHD is the only WO with a fully featured online mode, HD has several online events scheduled during the weekend, including a few major tournaments. We're going to be filming as many of these events as possible, and throwing the games up onto youtube. These events will also earn points, with the major tournaments earning twice as much.
Here's the schedule of events: http://tinyurl.com/q6eshdy

There's a facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/849214518480044/
This will be the home base for what's going on during the weekend. Check it for updates on videos, people streaming the games, etc.

There is a PSN chatroom named '20th anniversary weekend'. You should be able to message me or any of the hosts for an invite to it.
There's also a skype room open for the event. Click here to join it: skype:?chat&blob=b4BF3oGmgsn0LZ574-AjreMQBVNMi3q5nFHCDGd0T_XCtS7Z1prZjCtI4zEWsmi1nShU SnHOqCej7W6w
or, failing that, add me 'dreadofmondays' and mention WO in order to be added to it.
Please come and chat with us!

Here's the schedule of events: http://tinyurl.com/q6eshdy
Enter all your offline race results here: http://tinyurl.com/pnvgxrf

I hope to see you there!

For the PS1 wipeout games, would we be allowed to use an emulator? That's the only way I'll be able to play them

Also, will all the Facebook stuff go here on WZ? Because I don't have a Facebook and I don't intend to

dreadofmondays

Yeah, emulation is allowed. :)

I'll try to keep this thread relatively up to date, but it's not designed for event handling like FB Events are. At any rate, the important details are all here, including that I'd like some volunteers to help me out during the weekend.

I'm in for WipEout , WipEout 2097 and WipEout HD / Fury :)

Ace3000

I'm in for all of them, though I will have to use 2048 for the HD Fury online sessions.

I'd like some volunteers to help me out during the weekend.

What all do you need help with? I think I could help.

I assume we're talking Time Trial leaderboards for the classic WipEouts? If so I'll be in for WO1 for sure. HD Fury is a no-brainer. Nobody forget about Zone battles!

Absolutely :)

What all do you need help with? I think I could help.

There needs to be more than one person who is up to date with whatever's happening. This is so players who can't find a game, or get lost, know who to add on PSN and who to contact in order to get back in touch with what everyone's doing.

Depending on how many people play at once, there may be multiple rooms open, and associated with this so most people should be made aware of who is hosting that stuff :)

Basically I just want a list of names so I can say to people "if you get stuck, send a psn request to any of these people and they'll sort you out". This is more important when some of us are asleep :)

Might be nice to set up a few dedicated chat rooms.

I'll be using an emulator for WipEout, 2097, and 3SE, probably.
I figure, for time trial tournaments, using the in-game lap time counter should be pretty valid, even for emulation.

I just beat all of WO2097 using Qirex in Cockpit view to prep up. XD

I've been having problems with getting screen capturing programs to record my gameplay nicely, so I'm going to try one final option. I'll let you know how that goes!

EDIT: It worked! Too bad I had messed with ePSXe's settings beforehand, so it kinda looks odd with it stretched the way it is. No matter, however, since I know what setting stretches it and I have fixed it. If the video is not available, or is in a crappy quality, give it a moment, Youtube's still processing it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YUammwaNi0

For the curious: My recording setup is more complicated than it needs to be, but it works, so why change it?

It involves looping my capture card through my computer by taking the video out via the HDMI out, then going back into my computer via the USB cable, powering it and sending the input back into the computer to be recorded by the capture software.

With the sound, since PCs don't output sound via HDMI, I simply used Audacity to record the Stereo Mix, effectively recording the game audio. All that had to be done was sync up the video with the audio in my movie production software, edit it all up, and process the final video file.

One more week!

Ace3000

I found out I can potentially record PC audio via HDMI, I lied.

Whether I actually can is a different story, but if not, then I can just do what I did for that video I made.

However, the portable games have been causing problems for me, and as such I can only record them by sticking a camera in front of it. Knux suggested strapping the camera to my head, and I'd totally do that... if I had a go-pro, which I sadly don't. XD

EDIT: 2nd teaser/test video is complete! I will, however, be uploading it tomorrow my time. I'll still post it here when I do, though.

So this is what I've come up with.

Over the course of the weekend, play the wipeout games of your choice and record your race results, with either phone photos or some other capture mechanism.
For every combination of game, track, speed class and play mode, your races will earn points for you and the team you were flying for!
This will run for all games, throughout the entire weekend. At the end, the records will all be tallied up and podiums awarded to the players and the teams!

We're going to be filming as many of these events as possible, and throwing the games up onto youtube. These events will also earn points, with the major tournaments earning twice as much. The schedule will arrive soon.

I'd like to know your opinions/suggestions on this.

I'm hoping that people will enjoy this! I can't help but worry about nobody showing up lol. Hopefully we'll have a good time!

Ace - what about Fraps? Or ShadowPlay if you have an NVIDIA card? Works perfectly with ePSXe without all the farting about

Thankfully I can take pictures with my computer itself, otherwise I'd have no way of getting my records up for WO1.

I don't have an nvidia card, so I can't do that, and, to me at least, it seems too short a time for me get Fraps and fiddle about with it to get it working the way I like it. If there are any later stuff that needs me to record the PS1 games I might mess about with fraps, but not now.

Besides, I've been able to make the recording process much easier, since I can get PC HDMI to output audio as well, so no need to use Audacity

Looks like I'll be having to decide on my ultimate favourite team, then race with them though the whole thing, even if it's not my favourite craft in the game I'm playing. (For instance, I love Assegai in 3, and Piranha in 2097, but I don't think they're my favourite team).

I'll give you a hint: It's AG Systems.

While I have uploaded the trailers in 720p, it still takes 80 minutes to upload a 2-3 minute video (Australian internet, everyone!). For the actual offline tournament videos, they will be uploaded in SD which, according to the filesize produced with my tests, should take a quarter of the time to upload per minute. So theoretically, that 2-3 minute video should only take 20 minutes. Still doesn't take away from the fact that it takes forever to upload cause Australian internet is horsesh[REDACTED]

Ahem, sorry about that... the final trailer will be uploaded later today.

And it's up! I had to reduce the quality of this one since it would have taken 120 minutes... 2 hours, for a 4 minute video?!

More news:

I've changed my mind on the photo proof for offline records. Now we're using this form http://tinyurl.com/pnvgxrf on the assumption that everyone will be honest. Hopefully this is much easier for everyone!

Also, I will put that form to use, and wll use the videos as proof, since it will take a while for them to upload.

Hey, yeah... I only managed to make it online for the Restoration tournament, first time dropping into a WOZone event.. My goodness, I was unprepared xD

The amount of jostling and ramming messed up my racing lines, and everyone ahead snatched up the weapon pads so quick, I almost had to play a canon clean Harimau run :P

Great fun though, everyone raced well.
